Question of the Day: Do You Think the Oilers and Their Fans Should be Offended by This?

  • By now, just about everyone who has anything to do with the NHL has heard about the pounding that the Buffalo Sabres laid down on the Edmonton Oilers last week. The Sabres destroyed the Oilers 10-2 in Edmonton's worst home-ice loss in franchise history, prompting the team to do some soul searching, and The Fan 960 to do some more damage...

  • The Fan 960, the radio source for all things sports here in Saddle City, created this little diddy, parodying The Kinks' song "Lola." Now, yes, being a Calgarian born and raised, and obviously being a Flamer (Ash thats for you lol), I really enjoyed this little tribute to the loss, and generally enjoy watching the *cough* Losers get manhandled. But even if I was a baseball fan who loved the Red Sox, I'd STILL find it funny as Hell because it's just so well done.

  • Well now, McTavish and his cronies are crying to the NHL, calling the song distasteful and disrespectful, and detrimental to the game and just about any other boo hoo term you can think of to put a fancy title on "they're picking on us, make them stop." The way I and many others see it, if the Oilers had spent as much time and effort battling on the ice against the Sabres as they have battling for the song to be removed from The Fan's website, they wouldn't even be in this position. And lets not forget all of the ragging on the Flames that E-Town did when Calgary lost in The Cup finals in 2004, not to mention how Oilers fans like to bring up the "kicked out of the Playoffs every year in the first round" business. If we can take our lumps and not boo hoo about it, I suggest they do the same, otherwise, we're just going to laugh harder. (as we usually do when thinking about our neighbours to the North)

  • Until the Oilers and their faithful can learn to get over the bumps in the road (even if it was the biggest bump in team history...) Edmonton may want to reconsider the whole "City of Champions" title, perhaps in favour of something more like City of La La La La Losers....
