Tidbits and Asparagus

So if some of you have read on eatfeats, yes, I did participate in my second competitive eating contest. I was quite surprised how many people are so supportive in me doing this as an amateur, as I had never really imagined getting myself into the “sport” so much. It is quite an experience interacting with everyone involved and I have no regrets going from a fan to somewhat of a competitive eating participant.

Most people in the competitive eating world know me by my yardbarker/eatfeats nickname, Missbusylady. It’s a name I have been using for quite some time, even prior to the whole CE involvement/fandom. However, I guess for the past two contests, Ryan Nerz has used the moniker “Chicks Dig Competitive Eaters” and “the Fan”, which suits me, well, quite perfectly. It is actually quite difficult coming up with an appropriate nickname for yourself, let alone someone else giving you a name. Either way, I’m fairly happy with the ones I currently have.

So, onto the Asparagus festivities… I found it fairly easy to eat at the beginning, with shoving the first 4 spears into my mouth at a reasonably quick pace. However, just like the funnel cake competition, the fried dough got to my taste buds and I did not fare quite well soon after. I was able to finish a complete pound, but didn’t place too far up. Well, I did have fun while I was there. The only downside to it all was that the ladies at the ticket entrance made me pay for admission, despite my reason to enter was specifically for the competition and nothing more. I found out through conversation with all the contest participants that they got in free…. So naturally I wanted a refund, they said they would issue one, but to no avail. I was quite disappointed. I learned a few lessons after participating in two CE competitions: bring your own liquids when possible, print out any contest confirmations and directions, and do several practice runs prior to the actual day of event.
