SAN FRANCISCO -- Oregon
was picked to finish seventh in the 2012-13 Pac-12 Conference preseason media
poll released prior to the start of Pac-12 Media Day.
Arizona was pegged to win
the conference, followed by UCLA and California. The Wildcats received 15
first-place votes and 403 points, barely edging the Bruins (16 first-place
votes, 402 points).
The Ducks have exceeded
preseason expectations the past two years under third-year head coach Dana Altman. Oregon was picked to finish fifth a
season ago and tied for second. In Altman's first season, UO placed seventh
after conference media predicted a 10th-place finish.
Media have correctly
picked the conference winner 12 times in 20 tries. The lowest ranked team to
ever win the title was Oregon in 2001-02, when the Ducks were chosen
sixth.
The Ducks host
Southwestern Oklahoma State on Monday at 7 p.m. at Matthew Knight Arena in their
second and final exhibition game. Oregon remains home to open the regular season
on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 4:30 p.m. against Northern Arizona in a game that will
be carried on Pac-12 Networks.
