"Horry Kow", the hottest selling T-shirt outside Wrigley

A guy selling unlicensed Cub mercahndise reports his hottest seller is a t-shirt with the front of the shirt showing the traditional Cubs cartoon bear face but with slanted eyes and wearing oversized Harry Caray-style glasses. It's accompanied by the words ''Horry Kow,'' scrawled in cartoonish ''Japanese'' script. Fukudome's name and number are on the back. The picture is great.

    • These shirts have been BANNED from eBay. You may see some but when you order them, eBay sends a notice that the listing has been pull due to "Hateful and Discriminitory" practices. You can still get them from a site outside of eBay: http://shop.achtungtshirt.com. They are only $13.99...same design.

Uh-oh. I sense the PC police showing up. Almost like the time when Sarah Silverman said that she didn't like it when people said, "I hate Chinks," and would rather have them say "I love Chinks." :-D I have a feeling that somebody's going to shut that guy down.

  • Two idiots. Sarah Silverman's joke was a commentary on racism, plus you re-tell the joke wrong. I'm not a particularly PC person, but this shirt is in poor taste.

Wow. I've never been called an idiot before. Buffoon, ignorant, thick-headed, oblivious, but never an idiot. Man. I'm honoured. :-D

It was a paraphrase, dude. I never professed to enter the exact text. I was just trying to convey a general sense of things.

So when "Family Guy" talks about programs airing on "CBS: Asiantown," you have a problem with that as well? Okay. Good to know. I'll keep it in mind.

Seriously, man, I wouldn't buy one if I were out there, but I'm one for letting the market dictate things.

poor taste is your opinion.....i think its less filling......i kid.....but do like the shirt and also see how some will be offended....but some peple need to be offended

Relax. It's not like Fukudome is going to see it and go home and commit seppuku. This shirt is pretty funny and is certainly less offensive than this scene that TBS plays 12 times on Christmas day.

u mean me raff rong time!
  • The fact that Fukodome said he finds it offensive should end the debate. That anyone would debate this typifies the frat boy mentality that Wrigleyville is known for.

There was also this billboard from earlier in the spring. Check out the "rising sun" motif.

whos not accepting it? its just a funny name! Different words have different meanings across the world...remember the Chevy Nova they tried to market elsewhere...it meant "No Go" in other areas...thats life, live with it and keep trying to get somebody to show you some money.
  • Who cares. Fuk u, do me. makes too much money to be complaining about what is ultimately an expression of pride in his being on the Cubs. The asians should talk, the way they treat Gai-Jin over there. Unbelievable.

  • Wonder if the cubby bear was in black face, wearing pimp glasses, saying something like "holy fried chicken" people hear would think that funny too.

Yes they would. Although it would be funnier if the face looked like Fuzzy Zoeller's with watermelon seeds on his chin.

  • Can you imagine if white people complained everytime 'White men can't jump' or 'White men can't dance' or 'Look at the little cracker try and groove' was said ... and I spent a year in Japan, they treat whites like you have the plague or something ... just be a grown up and laugh it off ... too many sensitive babies in the world today.

  • This reminded me of a shirt in Japan that had a white guy with horns and the words white devil. All the asians laughed and the whites (or gaijins) didn't find it funny.

  • This tee as well as the samurai headband people wear perpetuate stereo types and for those who don't see it are blind or ignorant. We might as well have fans wearing sombreros for the mexican players, red dots on their foreheads for indian players, chucking spears for african players and for white players...tshirts that say ENTITLED.
    All stereotypes.
