Montreal Canadiens for sale - possible bidding war

Montreal Canadiens owner George Gillett may sell the legendary team as he tries to maximize his holdings, and it could spark an intense bidding war.



Already, several potential buyers are examining the Montreal Canadiens' books as part of a process that observers say could see the storied franchise sell for as much as $400 million....



...On Wednesday, CTV Montreal confirmed that several bidders have signed confidentiality agreements so that they can review the organization's finances.



The potential buyers are said include:


  • Celine Dion and her husband Rene Angelil
  • Billionaire Stephen Bronfman of Claridge Investments Inc.
  • Guy Laliberte, founder of Cirque du Soleil
  • Joey Saputo, son of cheese magnate Lino Saputo
  • Molson family
  • The ALDO Group
  • Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec
  • Quebecor
  • Roustan Capital
  • Spectrum Equity





--This really is sad news, can you imagine what would happen if Celine Dion outbid everybody.-- hehehehehe
