Why Kentucky Fans Get a Bad Rap
The negative reputation comes from message boards. The Cats Pause board especially. We have a huge fan base, and message boards give us an outlet to post our thoughts. After Pitino left for the NBA, most everyone was unhappy about his decision. Most of us wont admit it now, but we never wanted him to leave. When Tubby took over, we became a very critical fan base as a whole. Not all of us, but most. Tubby was under great scrutiny from the beginning. After the success that we had under Pitino, we were very spoiled, and anything less than the same results we had under Rick, wasnt good enough. Tubby started out pretty well, winning the title in his first year. The years following is when the negativity started. Tubby had some down years soon after winning the title. We had a team nicknamed "Team Turmoil" that really put a lot of heat on Tubby. The following season, we had a great year, but we came up short by losing to Marquette in the Elite 8. That made the heat on Tubby get even hotter. Meanwhile, the media started hearing all the negative talk about Tubby, and they ran with it. Our fanbase was portrayed the "never satisfied" type. ESPN loves Tubby, and they have his back even to this day. However, he wasnt producing the results that UK desires. We want Final Fours and Championships here, not Sweet Sixteens and Elite 8's. Tubby had two extremely poor seasons the last two years, and most everyone wanted a change. ESPN and all the other sports stations couldnt believe what they were hearing. They look at Tubby as an elite coach. They were blind to the fact that he was under-achieving. His departure drew a lot of attention from around the country, and most everyone put a negative spin on it. The end result was...UK is a spoiled fan base that wont accept anything other than Championships. That simply isnt true though. We want the opportunity to win championships, we dont expect to win them all.
