LVS,
real name is Ben, is one of five Spartan fans to bring some serious
discussion of the current state of the Spartans football in their new
website The Only Colors ( Green and White). There are several important unresolved visible positions on the field
going into the Spring Football Game Saturday. The Spartans need to
replace their quarterback Brian Hoyer and Javon Ringer, the most
exceptional running back in recent school history. Sophomores Kirk
Cousins and Keith Nichol are the candidates for the quarterback
position, but it is unclear as to the outcome or when a decision will
be made.
Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio put the Spartans through a scrimmage in Spartan Stadium on Saturday, April 18.
The offense won 68-46, making two touchdown passes each from Kirk
Cousins and Keith Nichol. The Spartan defense dominated the early
action, with a lead 33-23 at the middle of the scrimmage. Cousins and
Nichol both threw for two touchdowns. Nicole made an 18 yard touchdown
pass to Blair White, who finished with a team-best eight receptions for
105 yards and two scores.
Coach Dantonio said, "The quarterbacks
were impressive, Kirk Cousins came out and did some positive things. He
was very proficient in the passing game. Once again, Keith Nichol
scrambled out of trouble for some yardage, and he made a couple of nice
throws down the field as well. Both of those guys I thought threw the
ball down the field pretty well today and performed well overall."
Pat Narduzzi, defensive coordinator, and the Michigan State defensive unit
will need to establish themselves Saturday when the Spartans concludes
its 15 spring practices with the Green-White intrasquad game. The
Spartan Nation post continues, "The defensive line needs to continue
the progress it has made through spring camp. The line needs to squelch
the running game, keep Keith Nichol contained and refuse to let Kirk
Cousins sit back and pick them apart. For that last little bit, the
defensive end position will be an interesting unit to watch."
