Oh Those Long Suffering Yankees Fans

So here's the thing: I've been a Yankees fan since I was a kid. And I remember the recent dynasty led by Derek Jeter before George Steinbrenner ruined his team (or, excuse me, New York City's team) with a bunch of superstars, instead of guys who could actually play together as a cohesive unit. But this article by Jane Heller is ridiculous. Divorce the Yankees? For what?! A poor start to one season (and, yes, I know, to the past few as well), when 26 other times they gave you every reason to "love and cherish them for all eternity." Bottom line, I hate to say this to my fellow Yankee fans, but some of you are getting too spoiled (okay, bit of an understatement). New York fans are some of the best in the country, but they will only keep that distinction if they do what true fans do: stick with their team through thick and thin. I think Ms. Heller encapsulated the attitude of all too many Yanks fans when she wrote, "If they suddenly start winning and somehow become not only the American League champions this season but the World Series champions, I will take that as a sign that they want me back and I will give them serious consideration. But as of right now, we are over." Because in New York it's win or go home. Nothing less than a World Series Championship will do.
