OU's Peterson breaks collarbone, out until at least Bowl Game
The Heisman frontrunner and offensive foundation of Oklahoma went out today with a broken collarbone against Iowa State. He ran for 183 yards and 2 TD's in his team's win, where his father watched him for the first time as a Sooner. Peterson's injury occurred when he scored on a long TD scamper and then dove into the end zone, landing awkwardly but untouched from the defense. The play will likely end the career of Peterson at Oklahoma, as many expect him to declare for the NFL draft at the end of this year. Peterson will come up a few hundred yards short of breaking the OU rushing record, despite multiple injuries that have hampered his productivity. The day ended the season of the Heisman hopeful and likely will doom the chances of Oklahoma contending for a Big-12 Championship.
