Chase Headley likely to be called up to majors

With the San Diego Padres showing a lack of offense and a disappointing record it's looking increasingly likely that 2007 Texas League player of the year and top organizational prospect Chase Headley will be in the majors before the All Star Break. Headley, who turned 24 today, went 5-for-5 with a double and a walk Thursday for Triple-A Portland. In his last ten games he's hitting .463 and he's sportting a strong .304/.383/.464 line for the season. The Padres have gotten very little out of their outfielders this season. Jim Edmonds who was signed to bring veteran leadership to the team is hitting just .178 and the trio of Scott Hairston, Paul McAnulty and Justin Huber have not done much better. AVG OBP SLG HR RBI R Edmonds .178 .265 .233 1 6 6 McAnulty .238 .355 .381 2 8 4 Hairston .210 .257 .400 4 10 11 Huber .200 .294 .333 1 3 6 Headley briefly spent time in the majors last season appearing in 8 games collecting four hits in 18 at-bats. The rest of the year was spent at Double-A where Headley hit .330/.437/.580 as a member of the San Antonio Missions.
