Bugeatersteve's Deathrattlesports.com Bottom 5 ranking for Week 8

This week makes it two straight where no bottom 5 bottom feeders tasted the sweet juices of victory. Although SMU did come very close to doing so. So now on to the recap of the fall festivities. Number 5 (5) - Kent State Golden Showers - Lost to Ohio by a tight score of 26-19 on Saturday. Now they get to regroup for a week with a bye until the face the awesome force that is Miami (Ohio) the following week. Number 4 (4) - SMU ponies - This could of, should have been the upset of the week. SMU playing at home against the University of Houston and they were ahead by 12 going into the 4th quarter and was even leading by 2 with 2 minutes left and U of H 85 yards away. No way man, Case Keenum threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Tyron Carrier with 24 seconds left as Houston rallied for its third straight win, beating SMU 44-38 on Saturday night. Next up for SMU at Navy on Saturday, and you wonder why the NCAA has never used the death penalty again. Here is why. The Mustangs compiled 52-19-1 record from 1980 until 1986, including an undefeated season in 1982. Since 1989 they have had exactly 1 winning season and have a record of 58-153-3 a .271 winning percentage. The death penalty was also a strong factor in the demise of the Southwest Conference. SMU taught the NCAA that the Death Penalty was too much like the Atomic Bomb, that the results were to devastating and will do anything to avoid dropping another one. Number 3 (3)- Washington Muskies - Improved to 0-6 remaining only one of two winless schools after losing to Oregon State 34-13. Now things are set up nicely with Notre Dame and USC back to back in an effort to go winless for the season. Number 2 (2)- Idaho Scandals - Nice game Saturday Louisiana Tech defeated Idaho 46-14. Next up is New Mexico State at home. Number 1 (1) - North Texas State gang green - Went down to Monroe Louisiana Saturday and got beat by close 35-23 on the scoreboard. However don't be misled, Louisiana Monroe was up 35-6 at halftime and basically called off the dogs for the game after that. Next loss this Saturday to Troy. Teams on the cusp, just waiting for their chance include Michigan and Washington State.
