Breaking News: Shanahan Out In Denver

The National Football Post is reporting that Shanny is done in Denver. I could be wrong, but if this is true, the Broncos just doomed themselves to some time in the AFC West basement...and that's saying something. Sure, the defense was horrendous, but Champ missed a number of games and the team put 7 RB's on IR. That's a lot, especially when you consider some teams only carry 3 backs on their active 53 man roster.

It will be interesting to see who Denver goes after to replace him. Any guesses?

This was kind of unexpected but i guess the team wasn't happy with how they finished off by letting the Chargers take the West. I could see Denver going the way of a defensive coach or even taking a shot at Cowher or Marty, but i don't know what way they will go. In the end i think this was a bad move but that's just my two cents.

  • Shanahan's firing was long overdue. He's done nothing since John Elway retired. Remember when he benched Jake Plummer a few years back? They were 7-4, he benched Plummer and the Broncos missed the playoffs. Haven't been to the playoffs since.

Shanahan was in charge of player personnel too, so he can't blame someone else for the people choices he made.

In the 10 years since Elway retired, the Broncos have made the playoffs 4 times, winning only one game.

What have you done for me lately, Shanahan? Obviously not enough.

mike didnt deserve this. denver had way too many injuries this year which is totally why they collapsed. half of the defensive starters were injured. anything besides cowher will be a downgrade

Cowher is looking at the Jets, so I wouldn't count on him for that job.
  • MIKE!! WHEN THEY FIRED YOU IT REMINDED ME OF THE PRODICULE, >SON OF THE WASHINGTON REDSKINS!
YOU KNOW WHEN THEY SOLD THE TEAM FROM UNDER THE SON OF (JACK KENT COOK)>. THIS IS TRUELY RIDICULOUS THEY GAVE (DAN SNIEDER THE REDSKINS)
AFTER HAVING A TEAM FOR SEVERAL SEASONS, WHEN COMING TO A CROSS ROAD LIKE THIS EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE A LOOK @ THE FINAL DECISION! DO WE CHANGE OWNERS, OR THE COACH>

You think? I have a feeling they go with a defensive minded coach. It's going to be difficult to find someone with a better offensive mind than shanahan, and Mike Martz probably won't help in the effort to rebuild the defense. If they go get a defensive coordinator, they'll have an excuse for the inevitable offensive drop-off.

Yes, Shanahan's attempts at putting together a defense were not productive at all. They haven't had a good defense since Wade was there. Hey, wait!!! Send Wade to Denver and we'll take Shanahan. Trade straight up.
