Texans looking good at minicamp

After the Texans' morning workout at minicamp, GM Rick Smith asked me what I had learned from watching the practice. I laughed. 'Tis is rare that I learn anything from football practice, particularly a practice in shells on a Saturday morning in May. Oh, on occasion you can get a sense of who is moving well (Mario Williams, but that's a surprise to who?), and you can make some amateur-eye physical observations (Fred Weary and Anthony Weaver have slimmed down), but for the most part, as I told Smith, I don't know what I have learned until I ask the coaches and players who did what and who didn't.

There are those that tell me I am less of an Eagles fan because I have never gone to Lehigh to watch the team practice in camp. I have no interest in going. Not because I think it would be boring or I have something better to do in the summer.I don't go because of all the annoying amateur scouting reports that come back to us via radio.Countless hours of audio footage of fans telling you "this guy's a beast" or "so and so has really bulked up" or "that draft pick is even faster than we thought". I can imagine spending a week with rabid superfans broiling in the Pocono sun yapping about how great Jeremy Bloom is and then wondering what the hell happened when he gets cut.(Bloom was the highly touted KR/PR wideout that was also an olympic skier.A real Lehigh Valley favorite.) Anyway, you can probably see my point.
