Report: Eagles Offered Sheldon Brown for Anquan Boldin

If these reports are accurate, it doesn't appear the Arizona Cardinals were able to drum up much serious interest in disgruntled receiver Anquan Boldin in advance of the draft. The Bears apparently offered a second-round pick, and according to Kent Somers in the Arizona Republic, the best the Eagles offered was a third-rounder plus (also) disgruntled cornerback Sheldon Brown.

The Eagles may still be interested, though with first-round pick Jeremy Maclin in the fold they now have more leverage than they did before the draft. And there are still teams (Jets, anyone?) with glaring needs at receiver. But if all the Cardinals have been able to get are the offers mentioned above, it begins to look as if Boldin might not get his wish to be traded out of Arizona before training camps start.
Somers, in his blog, indicates that the Eagles' offer was woefully insufficient and doubts that it provided enough basis for Eagles coach Andy Reid to argue that the Cardinals aren't serious about dealing Boldin:
"Reid went on to say that he didn't think the Cardinals ever really wanted to trade Boldin. Of course, it would be hard to determine that when the best offer is Brown and a third rounder.

Maybe the Eagles figured they would take a stab at stealing Boldin for a pittance. No harm in that.

The Eagles never offered more than the third round pick and Brown, a seven-year veteran who is unhappy with his current contract. The Cardinals didn't have a need for a starting cornerback after signing Bryant McFadden in free agency."
Unless there's more activity on this than we've seen evidence of so far, Boldin may have to wait to see if an injury situation develops with some other team during training camp if he really wants out of Arizona.
