"VETERANS DAY TRIBUTE"!!!

With everything that's happened at Ft. Hood my old duty station. I'm compelled to give a big shout out to the vets. My hat's off to all the tough guys who went through the meat grinder. As for me I got a appointment with the Captain. Captain Black Jack Daniels. Then again that's what I do to celebrate all the devil dogs, bush jumpers, jarheads, risers, and salty dogs. Thanks guys be care and give em hell.

Here..Here, Robbo. Without veterans like yourself we couldn't live the freedom we enjoy and quite frankly take for granted in the greatest country on earth. I myself am not a vet, but both Mom and Dad served in the Army and big bro in the Navy. Shake the hand of a vet today and thank him and her for their service...God Bless the folks in Ft. Hood!! Thanks Robbo!! I'm still feelin a little pain from Sunday night, by the way..LOL

I take umbrage at the prevailing attitude of blaming any and everything that may be disagreeable. I also find it strange that more appreciation is not shown to vets who sacrifice much so that we enjoy our freedoms.

I know first hand that our fighting heroes are catching hell from all sides. Yet they fight on in the face of implacable odds. My hat goes off to Americans who understand how blessed we are for the duty our troops preform on a daily basis.

It especially perturbs me to hear people say they will not post and give their say on issues. Our troops would be hurt to hear people not exercising their rights of freedom of speech. When precious blood has been spilled to see that we have the opportunity.

Well I can tell you this as a vet I will never let the naysayers or the manipulators of reason and common sense dumb down our people for the sake of profit. I say to all who love this country you may not feel you have any effect on doing what's right for this country in your current condition.

Do what you can. If it's encouragement, clarification of issues, making sure our children stay healthy in mind, body and spirit, teaching critical thinking, or whatever your skill level. Then do that. Make our vets proud of us as we are proud of them.

By no means don't sit there and let opportunities pass by without doing what you know in your heart of hearts what's best for the times.

Our veterans fought too hard and given too much to see Americans live the pursuit of happiness. There is no guarantee that things will work out the way we hope, but then that's half the fun of furthering the tenets this country was founded.

You'll make it, have faith. Take positive action for the greater good for our loved ones, and our nation as a whole. Thank you for your time. "THANK GOD FOR THE USA AND OUR TROOPS"!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice job, Robbo... We may argue within this country on many issues, but one thing we all can agree on is it is OUR country and let no other take what has been fought by our countrymens blood. We, as a people believe in a free way of life and will fight at our very own doors to uphold that very gift that has been given to each one of us. God Bless our voices..God Bless our fallen heroes and God Speed to all our troops!!!

Really do appreciate it "Fill". That's what we do here in the land of the brave. We go back and forth to work things out, just like the current issue with health care for example.

Heads up "Fill" just making a point "ACE". The main point is for you and all the of you guys to express things that's near and dear to your hearts. Don't worry it'll start off as crap and we'll give you hell for it, but it gets better then you can give us hell,.....lol. You know how we do,......

      Again, thanks my man.

No prob!! I have to agree that you would think more peeps would give thanks on ur post. It seems a guy hatin on McChoke who gets 300 responces, yet ya get like 30 on here shows the lack of interest this country has in issues. I mean a simple thanks to the vets is so hard? WTF?....but, hey...thats just how I feel. I am old enough to remember the days of Vietnam and I saw how those vets returning home were treated. Scoffed at..called baby killers and drug addicts and got no welcome home pats on the back. Just feel we owe it to them to say thank you!! So to you and GR and Wheels and all the vets out there, I appreciate your service...nuff said...no never nuff said!!

Guess its just something I was brought up in. You see my dad was in the Army, born on Veterans day, his middle name was Victor for obvious reasons..joined the Army at 18...was on the beaches of Normandy..watched people die right next to him...received two purple hearts...rarely spoke about what he saw, but my uncle would tell me things. Dad died on Memorial day, only fitting, back in '91. I think of him every Veterans day and the sacrifices he made for me today. So although I never got into the service, I respect those who did. Sorry, had to get that out....something I feel very strongly about...Thanks again, Robbo...

HOO-RAH "Fill",.... Thanks for sharing makes me proud to have served in the shadow of heroes like your dad sir.

General George Smith Patton Jr. was born on veterans day just as your dad. These were hard men Fill. I can assure you that any one of the commanders I served under heard all this crap about soldiers dying everyday?

Trust me dude there would be hell to pay from the CO's whom were in charge of the fallen. Then hell would rain down on the enemy like you never seen. They did not play no way no how. I understand your dad. That's just the way they're wired.

Hey Robbo, I was stationed in Ft Hood as well, First Cavalry Division. Was there one year while they were building the admin building where I believe the shhotings took place. Wasn't my fave assignment, Germany was the bomb for me. Take care fellow vet.
    • Robbo24
      Placard_complete_small
Ohhhhh,...... 2nd Armor Division, big younster. The shooting took place in the building that was the Dome. From what I understand they redone it to be a administrative something or another. I played a lot of basketball and lifted a lot of weights there when it was a gym.

Yeah Ft. Hood is a bit of a let down compared to my other assignments as well. It was a up, down thing with me but alright altogether. Give em hell "GiantsRepeat" stay safe my friend.

my wife was stationed at fort hood also, sort of. she was a civilian secretary.
    • giantsrepeat
khollen, the civilians play an important role also. I always said when I was in my wife was in also. Our troops need the support of the civilian community as well.

I remember having to be sure to do the exact speed limit in Coppers Cove, or the hick cops would give you a ticket for that as quickly as speeding. Be cool and God Bless dude.

Damn GR you hit the wrong reply button just like I do. I know what you're saying though. When I was ther we called it "The Trap", and Harker Heights was bad too. That's why when I got some time off I took the route south going to Austin and San Antonio. Plus surrounding hill country suburbs. I can't forget Mexico many good times there.

Me and the guys raised holy hell all around there GR. Now back on base the only thing I liked was the packing store, and the NCO Club sometimes. Mostly played pool in the rec room went to the Dome played ball basketball, football, lifted weights, and fixed on my car. Then that's just me, I from Dallas I rarely went north apart from the occasional showing my face at the house.
    • giantsrepeat
Robbo, I was only there for a year before going to the Field Station in Augsburg Germany. What that place holds for me is a bad memory since I was almost killed on a two lane road near where my wife and I rented a trailer. I was hit broadside by a Cadillac coupe Deville and the jerk wrecked my 1967 Pontiac LeMans that I was restoring. But the car saved my life, I was glad to leave the place. And yeah, I remember Harker Heights as well.

That's what they do Apollo. They're embarrassed for misreading old dude. Shows a flaw in the system.

They'll never admit that. That's OK too everybody in the military knows you got to watch out for everything, and I do mean everything. If you know what's good for you. Thanks again Mister.
