Deion Sanders: Cowboys secondary careful, cautious, never tries to make plays

Published: 14 January 2012 05:12 PM

Deion Sanders, the Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys and an analyst for the NFL Network, joined the Ben and Skin Show on KESN-FM 103.3 in Dallas on Thursday. Some excerpts:

On the Cowboys secondary:

"The Cowboys] cornerbacks play not to get beat. But they're paid to make plays, even though they're always trying to make sure they don't get beat, and that's a problem. To me, I need a cornerback to make plays, but they instead play careful, cautious and don't make plays. No one is saying 'I'm going out there and dominate this guy -- like Calvin Johnson.' Nobody says, 'I got Calvin Johnson,' instead of having three guys covering one guy."

  • It seems like Prime Time Just called the "Bullies" Pansies! Just sayin...
  • Secondary and O-Line mostly is the problem. Our GM has finally gotten rid of the root cause. Namely Campo, and Houck. Something way overdue. Next in line is our HC, he's way over his head getting out coached 90% of the time in big games.
  • Robbo you can't keep changing head coaches. At some point in time the boys have to just play. The biggest issue I see is Jones. It will be difficult to get a great coach in Dallas who would have to take all of his picks and deal with him being GM.
  • I agree, our GM is the reason we have been underachieving for so long.
  • you mean your coach, that's what happens when your coach is a puppet i'm willing to bet JJ helps with the game plans that's why Jimmy Johnson left
  • without a doubt. Jimmy left cuz Jerry wouldn't stay out of his kitchen. Jerry wants to be Jimmy but doesn't have the football IQ to do so...AND he doesn't have an eye for chemistry either. The Cowboys have been a pack of clowns since 96.
