Barry Sanders: Incredible and Selfless | Sports Then and Now

Players like Brett Favre and Michael Jordan walk away then come back then walk away then come back yet again. They can not douse the competitive fire. They need the adrenaline rush. They aren’t ready for a “normal” life even though their body may be.

Not Barry Sanders. He retired at his prime and he was only 30 years old. He left the game as arguably the

best running back in NFL history. He has been content with his decision and never attempted a comeback over the 11 years since his retirement.

  • I agree , Short of J Brown himself no player has stood by his choice to retire and mean it, B Sanders was one of the all time best. I always say if Barry had the O Line that E Smith had in Dallas and Smith had Lion O line would u even know who E Smith is now and just how many yards ould Barry Sanders had finished with or better how many more years would he have played or Rings would he be wearing with a Aikmen QB an Irvin WR next to him in the huddle.
