ESPN Covers Up Bush Boos on MNF

This blogger on the Daily Kos makes a claim that ESPN covered up the crowd in the Superdome booing George Bush Sr. when he came onto the field for Monday's coin toss. "It started with right winger Mike Tirico announcing George Bush Sr. to the crowd. Instantaneously you could hear an echo of cheers and not a single boo from the audio. But if you listen carefully to the audio, that audio was not live. ESPN shut off the sound of the Superdome crowd for a few seconds and played this audio of fake cheers. About ten seconds later ESPN had to shut their fake tape off and go to the NFL official on the field for the coin toss. That's when you could hear the REAL crowd noise." I actually noticed this too -- I was expecting the New Orleans crowd to boo Bush Sr., and was surprised at the cheers. When the noise changed to boos, I was confused. This clears it up if it's true -- and I can't say I doubt it.

    this is dead on accurate.

i heard the same thing, and i also fully expected loud boos. what else could we have expected? a year ago, that guy's wife insulted everyone in new orleans, and between the two of them, they were responsible for breeding the incompetent fool who abandoned the entire city.

i thought it was pretty ballsy to have ghwb be out there in the first place. i dont understand the point of it.

I think the point of it was to give the Bushes a chance to demonstrate their role in the glorious resurection of New Orleans. After all, FEMA paid for the Superdome's reconstruction (highly prioritized over peoples' houses, by the way). I would have LOVED to have seen W walk out onto that field... but I guess ESPN can't hide seats being ripped out of the stadium and thrown at his head.
