ASU's Dirk Koetter fired after win over rival Arizona

A season high on expectations and low on results came to an end for Dirk Koetter and the Arizona State Sun Devils today, as the university decided to fire Koetter. Koetter went 40-33 in his six seasons but rarely beat the best of the Pac-10. This season began with a high ranking but was surrounded by the QB controversy beginning this season. Rudy Carpenter was beat out by incumbent Sam Keller, but hours after announcing Keller as the starter, Koetter changed his mind and named Carpenter the starter. Keller decided to transfer to Nebraska and the season continued for the Sun Devils. After their loss to California, Arizona State spiraled out of contention for the Pac-10 title and ended 7-5. There has been no word yet whether or not Koetter will coach ASU in their bowl game.
