Should Jeremy Maclin takeover Kevin Curtis' spot permanently?

Up until last Sunday the Philadelphia Eagles first-round 2009 draft choice (nineteen overall), wide receiver Jeremy Maclin wasn't looking like he will have the type of rookie season that his fellow Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson had in 2008.

But then the Buccaneers stroll into town and while they're attempting to shutdown DeSean Jackson, they never saw the former Mizzou Tigers standout blow up for a six catch, 142-yard and two-touchdown performance. Making it looking more and more like the Eagles got another potential stud receiver in back-to-back years.

The key to Maclin's big game was that he replaced one of the Eagles usual starters Kevin Curtis who was out due to an injury. (Another key was the fact that they were playing one of the worst teams in the NFL.) But regardless of which team he blew up against, it remains impressive.

But did Maclin impress Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg enough to permanently become the starter? Recently Kevin Curtis has only been reliable for one thing, and that is becoming injured every other week. So having the rookie receiver start instead would make excellent sense.

Plus, you can just imagine the possibilities for Donovan McNabb if on one side he has DeSean Jackson and on the other side Jeremy Maclin. As long as J-Mac continues to improve and impress, the Eagles receiving core will become one of the best in the National Football League.

In the meantime if Kevin Curtis has actually lost his starting spot to Jeremy Maclin, offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg still believes in his talent.

"We'll see what happens with Kevin," Stated Mornhinweg. "He's such a fine football player; we'll find some places for him."

Reading between the lines it looks as if Mornhinweg believes that Maclin should be the other starting receiver opposite DeSean Jackson. This Sunday Kevin Curtis will be questionable and will likely not play against the Raiders. So Maclin will have another game to prove that he deserves to be a starter in this offense.
