WIP is reporting that Chris Mortenson has announced that the Eagles and Chip Kelly have come to agreement. How does everyone feel about the hire and the weeks of speculation that led back to their top candidate? It sits a little strange with me and still makes me hesitant about a man who doesn't seem sure about what he wants...hopefully he doesn't find the NFL overwhelming. On the other hand I am happy to see a fresh face in Philadelphia with new ideas and will be excited to see  how his offense translates to the NFL. Much more to come with the answers soon to start developing on how he fills out his coaching staff, what players he keeps and how might the draft turn out now that their is another offensive minded coach in town...this team needs MORE defensive help especially in the secondary!

  • I think its a solid choice. The college game is geared more towards the pros than it was 10 years ago and he seems to be considered a top innovator. It beats another season of the arrogant a-hole. There is still alot of work to be done before we get a clear idea about who is running this show..etc. But he played hardball in negotiations so Im sure the Eagles gave in to some of his demands. In his style of offense I dont see Foles really fitting in. But time will tell.
  • Trading with your former head coach for the number #1 pick could be extremely risky or at least questionable (if Smith doesn't prove the worth) but if they can get it done than so be it. Reid may want to start his KC career with that #1 pick just like he did with McNabb...he may hold that pick for a LARGE ransom if he decides to deal it especially if he's dealing with the Eagles. I think it would cost more than you think. The Eagles will have to figure something out at QB because I don't believe Vick will be here and Foles doesn't seem like a fit for Kelly's offense. Maybe there is a quarterback already in the NFL that the Eagles bring in (trade, free agent) who battles Foles for the number 1 spot and is a better fit...questions that will slowly start being answered as the off season progresses.
  • Besides any ill will that may or may not be there (no one likes being fired although I do agree he also had to know it was time) Reid isn't going to want his first draft with KC being known as the draft he gave up the #1 overall pick to his former team for next to nothing. He will only make that trade if he is a clear winner in one way or another.

A trade for Vick will never happen in my opinion, 20dawk. No team will give the Eagles picks for Vick especially with that current price tag and he already said he is not willing to renegotiate. (maybe his agent could find a city where he would be willing to do that in but I get the feeling the Eagles won't worry about compensation in Vick's case). The Eagles need to trim (hack honestly) money off the cap and I expect them to start with Vick and just walk away from him. According to eaglescap.com he is owed 16.5 million this year and they need to cut about 16.7 just to get below the cap...the numbers make too much sense especially for a 32 year old quarterback still surrounded by so many questions.
  • I was shocked with the news by my friends posting on my FB wall haha. I think some of the sanctions that Oregon was facing probably set in, and Kelly decided he didn't want to be a part of it. Plus, how many times can you turn down NFL teams and still expect interest? He's done it two years in a row, and I think NFL teams would look elsewhere given the situation.

Kelly's offense has been the biggest selling point, as well as not having a lot of recruiting power and still making his team competitive. The key now is (like you said) fill out the coaching staff and see if he can build a winning formula at the NFL level. A lot of teams in the NFL are running his type of offense (with variations) so it looks like we are pointed in the right direction.

We NEED defensive help for sure. And it makes me wonder just how committed Bradley is to Seattle? Or if any of the aforementioned head coaching candidates would be interested in becoming defensive coordinator (Bradley, Lovie or Ken W). Or if the Eagles are going to give Kelly the power to bring in his own guys?

Our draft strategy might not change very much since Roseman will be the main guy in charge of final decisions (I would think so anyway) and we already have the personnel to run Kelly's system with the players we already have on offense. I'm sure our top priority will be to draft OT Luke Joeckel. Then I'm assuming the best player available from there (I have a feeling the Eagles have their sights on LSU Safety Eric Reid for the 2nd round). Anyway...

I'm excited to see what the team will do next with the Coordinators and think that even though it took a little bit of time, the Eagles got their top candidate as Head Coach. Only time will tell, but the future is looking bright.
  • I was shocked myself when I heard it the news on WIP.

If the Eagles get Joeckel and Reid it should help solidify 3 spots as long as Peters is healthy. RT, one of the safety spots and moving Herremans back to guard. It would have to be considered a good draft in just those regards I would think.
  • say goodbye to Nick Foles.
  • We just became the Redskins.

When your HC can't even make up his mind what city he wants to be in, is PHILADELPHIA the right place for him to break his NFL cherry?

I hate this move. No real "football guy" in the GM, and a virgin NFL Head Coach.

    I can't even think straight.
  • I have so many questions in my head about this guy. Is he a discipline coach? can he use Foles? Will he change his mind and run back to college after a down season? Is he just a big name or is this guy really a mastermind like some people say he is? Will he bring back Vick? No more vick please! I am switching from site to site and I cant find enough info on this guy fast enough. I have no choice but to jump on the Kelly band wagon. Im excited!
  • If you're an Eagles fan that's what you do. I wouldn't have been thrilled with some of the retreads the Eagles were kicking at (still would have rooted them on of course) and I was getting excited by the thought of Bradley coming to Philly but what can we do? It's who the Eagles initially wanted...at least they got their man. As a fan I hope they made the right choice.
  • What a strange move. They must have broke the bank for the guy.
  • you can bet Oregan is headed for sanction trouble. He may end up being part of a distraction soon enough.

  • I've got a great feeling about this. It's very risky but I like it! He has the potential to bring something new and change the game. Can't say that about any of the other prospects.
  • I agree with you. what is key is whether they keep Vick. Trade him to KC and move up and get Geno
  • I as a Native born Eugene, Oregon or as we call an Oregonian, I dont Chip was ever really ROOTED here why??? he had what I call
happy Feet last year it was Tampa Bay, This year it was ????? Now If Im trying to build a program at any school??? I think one would like to stay put!!! and build the program, on the other hand Chip is single and at age 49 he thought why not give it try??? but im still saying and its my opinion why not stay an build a program ...
  • Sanctions are coming down that could hinder that building process.

  • At first I thought he would leave because of the sanctions, but then he decided to stay. I just hope he isn't as indecisive as an NFL head coach. He already has a big problem on his hands. What to do with Mike Vick?
  • Your right about those???? I thought when Kelly re thought???I thought mabe those were'nt going to be as rough????
