BILLY Davis. Pat Shurmur. Now this.

Let's start with Michael VickCBSSports.com's Mike Freeman reported Kelly embraces the notion of keeping Vick at a reduced rate, according to a source familiar with the team's thinking. Kelly and his assistants have broken down film from Vick's 2012 season and view him as a capable quarterback -- but they still aren't certain what they have in the 32-year-old passer.

So says this link:

Apparently Kelly still thinks Michael Vick has the skills, but wants to quibble over a few bucks. Whatever. When you think you have a leader, you don't risk NOT having him over pennies. Unless they CAN (not think they can) swing Alex Smith, this could be a dangerous game the Eagles are playing.

  • I get that there's no clear starter for the eagles this year. Foles is unproven, draft prospects aren't a guarantee, the FA pool looks dismal with regard to signal callers and other then Alex Smith who is a viable option to get via trade. What I don't get is why stick with someone who's 32 years old and has consistently turned the ball over far too much and gets injured far to often. Chip should just move on and start looking toward the future. I'd respect him a lot more if he gave Foles a shot or went out and drafted someone he likes. It might be a bigger risk but if it pays off he looks like a genius if not then he continues to look for his future QB rather then risking the fans support on being the second coach in philly to try and fix vick's style of play
  • After reading the article I don't feel that Chip Kelly wants Vick, but he is trying to reason what Vick has left and what talent he has. If Mike Vick were a great leader .... No great quarterback none of this would even be a factor. The bottom line is the Eagles are trying to weight their options once again. They have been going that route a lot this offseason and now they have their third best choice for DC. This isn't about how great Kelly thinks Vick is, rather its about how he doesn't think Foles good enough. If they were smart they would make a call over to the 49ers. I wouldn't be surprised to see Smith an Eagle, but they can't afford to just wait like they have all offseason. Otherwise Chip Kelly will screw himself over. Vick fools you once shame on him. Twice shame on you, but three times? Wow that's just plain stupid. If Chip places his trust in Mike Vick he will find himself added to the many coaches who have lost their jobs thanks to Vick.
  • I WHOLLY agree that this is less about how good Vick is and more about how little trust Kelly has in Foles. I keep saying that. The coach is going to go with who ever he thinks is his best option.

Barring a trade for Alex Smith, Free Agency and this roster won't offer Kelly anyone significant enough to change his mind.

Fans want a change. Kelly wants to improve his odds of winning. He just happens to disagree with his fans that swapping out Vick is the way to go.

    At least at this time.
  • Oh he'll find out soon enough lol.
  • id rather move forward with foles... if he struggles and fails at least we know he wasnt the guy. with vick we dont know what we get and failing with him doesn't benefit the team at all.
  • maybe hes talking a vicks inhaler?????
  • that's one expensive inhaler
