DO WE EVEN WANT JACKSON? AND OTHER TOPICS
I WAS A HUGE DESEAN JACKSON FAN, BUT HE DIDNT SHOW ME ANYTHING THIS YEAR THAT WOULD MAKE ME WANT TO SIGN HIM TO A LONG TERM DEAL, MACLIN WAS A LOT MORE PRODUCTIVE AND HE WAS RECOVERING FROM AN ILLNESS EARLY THIS SEASON. IM SURE MACLIN WAS BETTER THIS SEASON BECAUSE OF ALL THE ATTENTION ON DESEAN BUT HE TOOK THE OPPORTUNITY AND RAN WITH IT.
IM GLAD TO SEE VINCE YOUNG, STEVE SMITH AND THE REST OF THE BUMS GO, SEE YA AND WONT MISS YOU.
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SAMUELS GONE, HE HAS SERVED HIS PURPOSED AND IS NO LONGER NEEDED.
FIRE FIRE FIRE JUAN CASTILLO LIKE YESTERDAY. HIRE SPAGS BEFORE ITS TO LATE AND LETS GET THIS DEFENSE INTO SHAPE. IF I SAW ONE MORE SOFT SHELL ZONE, THAT GOT MY MAN ASOMUGHA ROASTED I WAS GOING TO SCREAM AND IM A MANS MAN
KEEP THE LINE HOW IT IS, I LIKE THE DEPTH.
FOCUS ON DEFENSE: LEGIT LBS, IM NOT ONE TO FOLLOW THE TREND BUT THAT LB FROM ASU VONTAZE BURFICT(SPELL CHECK) BELONGS IN A GREEN JERSEY WE NEED SOMEBODY THAT SNIFFS GLUE BEFORE EVERY GAME. I WANT HIM #PAUSE
-
The only reason Eagle fans are so afraid to lose De$ean Jackson is because there's a fear that he won't be replaced with someone more useful.
I think a lot of fans recall how long they had to suffer though the days of Torrance Smalls, Charles Johnson, Jeff Graham, Todd Pinston, James Thrash, and Greg Lewis. Harold Carmichael is this franchises all-time yardage leader with something like 8,000 yards.
If the Eagles replace him with someone who doesn't disappear for weeks at a time and can run a crossing route without ending up like Apollo Creed, I think fans will actually be GLAD the move was made.
I wouldn't say Samuel is no longer needed, but he is VERY expensive and isn't the commodity he once was. DRC and Asomugha's press style, Samuel's inability to only line up on one side of the field, and his lack of physicality for the slot means someone can be brought in who will be both better in the slot and cheaper.
Outbid the competition for Spags.
There is a legit NFL MLB who can spare you the gamble of a pick. Kirk Morrison rode Buffalo's pine for GOD KNOWS WHY this year. Better still, he's a veteran who can help the young LB's. -
i completely disagree with you.
-
like Morrison i know u know him better than me being a raiders fan but when i seen him hes good pro bowl potential. but with desean sure he doesnt go over the middle alot n he has faults but we both know how much he opens up the field for the rest and there are ways to send him over the middle just not in a straight line from side to side but on posts behind the LBs and get the ball to him before the safety can kill him. problem is vick is so short he has to throw high over the middle unless he has a clean lane. need tp upgrade the oline or leave one together for a year or two thats the best way to form an oline; i know u know this cause u got common sense but just need to clarify for the rest. i think we should give desean 4 or 5 years with 6.5-8 million to me hes worth 7 7.5 tops but eagles try to low ball n his agent goes high so we will see what he gets if not tagged. what about asante playing FS and getting a good SS i know his tackling would say know but his ball hawking in a deep zone makes me say yes. him and Q use to switch in games for plays so he has experience in it just at SS. if not trade him for a LB, sign Morrison and draft one i wont talent for once. love chaney like rolle but i want to be dominant for once there
-
I was screaming for Chaney before he was drafted, I was worried when he was drafted so low, and I'm glad he stuck.
I would just rather see him at SLB on the TE so the Secondary can be confident playing over the top. He's barely okay at MLB, but at SLB I think he'd be an annual Pro-Bowler. -
chaney is good not great dont think he will ever make a pro bowl n im a big chaney fan
-
now we agree
-
I still would like to draft a LB like Vontaze and let him marinate on the bench. Casey didnt look bad at the end of the season(his 2nd chance) but we need depth at LB, I wouldnt mind a vet like Morrison at all.
-
If Jackson is gone then all of the attention will fall to Maclin and frankly I don't think he's good enough step up. Maclin's been injured, has fumbled and dropped key passes all season wet this guy gets a pass? Maclin has been to zero pro bowls since becoming an Eagle, meanwhile Jackson has been to two and those two years as a pro bowl player Jackson was paid less then the kicker, the fullback, and Maclin as a rookie! People believe that the departure of Desean will make things better. That's incorrect in my opinion. We saw how dynamic this offense can be without Desean. Have people already forgotten the Arizona game? Let's not forget this coaching staff has done a terrible job of utlilizing the play makers on this team. They took Celek out of the offense for the first half of the season, they completely misused their best player (McCoy) and games like the San Fran game (4 second half carries), and the Patriots game to name a few. And they didn't do enough to get Jackson the ball in space so he can make plays. This wasn't all on Jackson, but I'm not saying he doesn't share in the blame either. The bottom line is if the Eagles are focused on bringing Reid back, they should bring Jackson back too.
-
You are of course talking like the eagles will leave the other side of the field vacant, or staff it with Chad hall. If they let Jackson simply walk it'll be to target a guy who makes Maclin more dangerous because he doesn't disappear for 6 out of 15 games a year.
-
BFlip that's exactly what Reid does! Have you forgotten Greg Lewis, Reno Mahe, and the fact you know who Chad Hall is !?! Remember what happened the last time the Eagles let go of a talented receiver. They didn't get another one until they drafted Jackson. They have no intentions of paying a receiver big money on the open market. THEY HAVE NEVER DONE THAT UNDER REID. You know something else? Jackson is the only receiver available right now that makes Maclin more dangerous, because Maclin might be more brittle than Jackson. You are picking the wrong guy to be gone here. Again I don't think Jackson is worth top 5 receiver money, but look at all the money the Jets gave to Holmes and that punk quit on his team, cost his team yards in games, and has been a bad guy on and off the field. Jackson has been far more productive for the Eagles and has been less of a distraction, but when you make less money than the fullback and you're arguably the best player on the team I can understand being a little frustrated.
-
I hope Jackson likes his new team better.
Stop me when I go off the deep end:
1) The Eagles won't franchise him and pay him top 5 money. They could have had him for less on a long term deal at any time this year.
2) He hasn't done much this year to drive up his numbers on the open market.
3) He has made comments about being more concerned with his health than his play (Understandable, but it won't help his bargaining position.)
4) Letting his contract become a publicity sore spot for his team as they struggled, did not make him look like a leader.
5)Lurie's statement drew a line in the sand:
"DeSean is a terrific player," Lurie said. "I think his attitude and his whole approach in the final month of the season was terrific, high energy. I think he started to realize and get it. So, you know, I would welcome him back. I think if the right terms develop, he would be welcomed back. We have the leverage of, obviously, we can do what we choose to do and control his situation but, terrific player and I really don't agree with those who think he's tapped his potential fully. I think he hasn't and he has a chance to get even better."
This indicates that there is some disagreement with regard to how good he can be.
6) With the way Lurie feels, Reid cannot let just Jackson walk, and leave a vacuum at the position. -
Well Lurie also cantradicted himself several times in that press conference. I also made it clear how dissapointed he was in the play of the defense, yet he was going to allow Reid to keep Juan if he chose too. With that being the case everything you typed about Jackson is specifically for contract negotiation purposes. Now the Eagles might be able to get him for cheeper than the numbers he wanted from before. If they Franchise him, he would have to bust it that year if he wants that money.
-
Lurie, Did say that reid will be talking next week so hopefully he's going to make that defensive change
-
He better hurry up, because if the Giants lose, you can bet they will be calling.
-
Wrong again flip. Somebody will pay Jackson top 5 money and it will be the Eagles or next season will be a bust. Book it.
-
I don't know about top 5, but I certainly think he will get top 10.
-
I would hardly call that a Reid "choice". Thats a financial decision left for those that like to make money.
-
ez 100% correct
-
how ever gave Vince Young 5 mil. should br fired he's stinks pay desean
-
The worst part is how they Eagles arrogantly disrespected their backup quarterback position. They knew Vick was a type of QB who doesn't play a full season. They knew the backup would most likely play and with their alleged offense that supposedly takes three years for a quarter back to learn, they had the keys over to Vince Young? Very poor decision by Reid and the talent evaluators.
-
That is definitely a concern but looking back, trading Kolb was still the right thing to do (I know you make no mention of him and appreciate you for that). He would have walked this year and the Eagles would have had nothing to show for it. This year they definitely need to find a backup/replacement for Vick depending on how Vick handles next seson.
-
There were other guys out there (other than Young) the Eagles could have made a move for. This was just Reid trying to prove he's a quarterback genius. Ironically All of Reid's projects and drafted quarterbacks were terrible this season.
-
pretty much correct EZ. Im not sure what you guys are looking at week to week but this team is not Superbowl bound anytime soon. I told you about the Raven organization and you laughed me off. Look at lurie double speak. All bogus crap.
-
I think they have a lot of good pieces, but if they bring this same group back and the same coaches, they will get the same results.
-
I like the trade but i think Kolb gets you one more win and thats the difference between Eagles players playing or munching down popcorn during the playoffs. And you pay Jackson and you get another win. Now you are 10-6 and a playoff threat. But the Eagles are much wiser. Save a penny and go 8-8.
-
not sure I agree with that assessment. Hes an adequate backup but it was a roll of the dice. Had Kolb kept his mouth shut and realized he was the perfect backup QB everything might have had a happy ending. the Eagles should have made Kolb stay.
-
You loved Vince Young at the beginning of the season.
-
I like V. Young and he will be a starter somewhere but he didnt have the proper time to learn the system. Actually , hes to qualified to be a backup but if he stays Im fine with that.
-
Spags should become our DC. Jim Washburn is the only problem I see with him being hired. Is Spags going to want to keep the Wide 9? If he doesn't Babin becomes expendable and then we are back on the market for a DE. But Spags has also shown he can get pressure on the QB without the Wide 9.
-
Washburn a problem? Fire him. Problem solved. Let Spags bring in his own people. Go let Juan help Mudd out with the line or go become a receivers coach or something.
-
You dont just let someone in Philly. You have to be a member of the clique. Like the freemasons or lumanati. They know the score. You are indoctrinated to a philosophy. Once you agree your lies and deceit are your bond.
-
One more thing. This whole idea that Maclin had this great year compared to Jackson is false. Jackson out gained Maclin in yards this past season by more than 100 yards. Maclin caught only 5 more passes than Jackson and only one more touchdown. Maclin missed 3 games due to injury Jackson missed one game, because he got benched. So in actuality it was Maclin and not Jackson who was the injury prone one.
-
But you make Eaglemafia's point when you point out that Maclin had more catches and 1 more TD in 2 fewer games.
Eaglemafia didn't say Maclin had a great year, he said Maclin was more productive; and in pound for pound fashion he really really was.
-
No he wasn't more productive. In fact you could argue that Maclin lost the Chicago, Atlanta, and San Fran games with his late game screw ups. You want to know what life will be like without Desean and what you can expect from the great Maclin? Look no further than the Arizona game where he caught 2 passes for 6 yards and then bowed out with an injury. Desean Jackson frustrated over a contract played in more games than Maclin and had comparable stats. To compare James Jett who had no hands to Desean Jackson is an insult to Jackson. In three seasons Jackson has nearly as many receiving yards as Jett had for his 10 year career. Desean Jackson makes this team go. When he's on and being used properly that is the best offense in the league.
-
1) Yes. He was more productive.
2) Maclin can't be reasonably blamed for an Atlanta loss where HE not Jackson was an actual contributor, all while the defense allowed a senior citizen TE to have a career day. In the Chicago game Maclin showed up, Jackson had 4 touches 26 yards and coughed up the ball. The San Fran game Maclin had a fumble but he didn't allow a 21 point comeback or miss two FG's that would have iced the game. He also didn't invent a new kind of fumble (Ronnie Brown at the goal line.)
4) Life with out Jackson was 3 of 4 NFC Championship games. The only one he played in he was a non-factor aside from one play.
5) A separated shoulder is not "bowing out". If you knew what it was, you'd realize how tough Maclin is for only missing 3 games. He actually started the Arizona game already playing on a tweaked hamstring.
6)Jett was the Raiders 3rd receiver, Desean thinks he's a 1 but keeps performing at a 2 level; so I wasn't comparing their numbers, I was saying both are/were 1 dimensional.
7) Weren't YOU screaming all this year that it's Shady that makes this team go, but that he doesn't get the ball enough? -
1) No he wasn't
2) If the ball hits your hands you have to catch it. Why does Maclin dropping a 7 yard pass that hit him square in the hands on 4th down get a pass? How does a wide receiver allow himself to both be ran down by a lineman and fumble on the same play get a pass? Also the fact the Eagles ran only go routes with Jackson for most of the season they themselves hindered Jackson production. Bottom line Maclin doesn't get his touches with Jackson, because he's the one who will get the double team, and he's not good enough to beat it.
4)That's not a fair assessment. Heck since Maclin's been here they haven't won a playoff game, and since Maclin was their number one guy, they won 8 games. Hardly an endorsement for life without Jackson. Pay the man and let him play!
5) He separated his shoulder on maybe the weakest hits I've ever seen a receiver take. Getting back to the bad Hammy. That is a killer injury for a skilled position player. When a player develops hamstring injuries, they ofter get them their entire career, and that means you can expect Maclin to miss multiple games a year every season. Let's not forget the "mystery injury too" You never know when things like that can resurface. Look no further than crazy Shawn Andrews for proof.
6) Jett never had half the talent of Jackson. Jett was a track man trying to play football. Jackson is a woefully underpaid receiver who is extremely fast. How about he gets paid money, before we compare him to a stiff?
7) Shady does make this team go, but having a guy like Jackson makes this offense better. He is a match up nightmare. I tell you this. When defensive coordinators game plan for the Eagles nobody is worried about stopping Maclin nor are they worried about where he's lined up. I'll tell you something else. Every big moment I have in my mind of Maclin they were either in games the Eagles. Every big moment I have of Jackson (but two) were in Eagles victories. Maclin isn't a gamer. Jet isn't a gamer. Jackson is. -
On more thing. Santonio Holmes was a CAPTAIN for the Jets, and he turned his back on his team in the middle of a game for a chance to make the playoffs and he makes 8 mil a year! You think guys like that are worth more than Jackson?
-
I've never typed a word about Santonio Holmes in his entire career.
-
I know, but people tend to equate Jackson with him as far as value and worth. I think Jackson is more valuable to the Eagles than Holmes is to the Jets.
-
Flip is out of his mind.
-
One more thing. You compared him to James Jett flip and that's terribly worse than comparing him to Holmes!!!!
-
EZ your killing me.
-
Wow EZ must be our day. our ideas rapidly becoming more a like.
-
Let's not go that far bro. I just think Jackson is a player the Eagles can win with. If winning is the goal, then they should keep him.
-
Thats the litmus test. Unless Reid has some more brilliant ideas.
-
Both Maclin and Jackson had bad years. Maclin had an excuse of having some unnamed illness that made him lose a lot of weight in the offseason. Jackson had the excuse of being distracted by Drew Rosenhaus.
I simply think they both had off years and will both be much better next season. -
I can agree with that, but I am a little concerned about Maclin. Frst with that illness, then with the bum Hammy and the shoulder injuries. He's making me wonder if he's more brittle than Jackson.
-
theyre both fragile skinny WR but the best options for us
-
To be honest I would rather have Jackson than Maclin. Get rid of Maclin and sign Colston of something. Maclin's big play ability is nearly as goos as Jackson's.
-
yea i think colston offers an upgrade over maclin in ever aspect jacksons big play ability is untouchable in the league
