I have to warn you. The Eagles will hurt the pride of Philly once again
Alot of people are making a big stink about the Eagles once again. Some even think the resignation of Banner will help chart a new course. Banner leaving is not a good sign. Why wouldnt Banner want to be part of a dream season? After all these years of making lurie money he just decides its time? Banner said it first their is nothing left but a superbowl. And thats the truth. Many of you laughed me off when I said their scheme would hit a wall. Its hit it head on. Now, the fans are twiddling their fingers with impatience. W/O that trophy the diehards will start to walk. No one in their right mind will wait another ten years for a superbowl. Especially anyone subjected to the garbage we have been fed. Nope its here and now but the Eagles have tons of competition. Last year looks like a cake walk compared to whats out there now. Banner wants nothing to do with what he sees coming and if I were him neither would I. So brace yourself for some real con jobs by this fron office while they try to protect this money machine and keep it going or just bail out. It will be interesting what they do with reid when he doesnt deliver. No outsiders allowed. They dont want anyone to mess with this scam.
-
"W/O that trophy the diehards will start to walk."
I you actually believe this then why are you still an Eagles fan?
-
If you actually believe this......
-
Its been so long since I spent money on this team that now everything is for s*its & giggles. I enjoy the turmoil. I like how they get over on everyone. Its a masterful business plan and they execute it with precision.
-
This is a n impressive management team from a business standpoint. They have a unique model, it makes money, and it keeps people spending. Win win Win. The only thing missing is a superbowl. So what?
-
99% of all NFL teams have the same plan. How do you fail to see that. So basically you are stating you are no longer an Eagles fan?
-
Exactly, Eazy. The Eagles haven't done anything extraordinarily different than most teams in the NFL and that comes close to including not winning a Super Bowl. In 46 years since changing to the Super Bowl format there have been 18 different franchises to win the Lombardi(I guess you can say 19 since the Ravens were the Browns shortly before winning the Super Bowl and even though the Browns are back as their own franchise) and 14 who are still waiting to win their first. It doesn't make me feel any better typing this...just pointing out that most of what hollywood complains about happens in many other cities...including not winning a Super Bowl.

the point is the guy was an architect of this franchisee and like McNabb they leave with unfinished business. Another guy hangs around for more than 15 years + but hes not a good fit. Boy, it took some time to draw that conclusion.
-
You have spent over 4 years ripping Joe Banner and now you are coming to his defense? Did you ever think he actually wanted to leave? If Banner had stayed with the Eagles, the Desean Jackson deal and quite possibly the McCoy deals never would have got done? In fact all of the resigning probably would not have happened.
-
I dont think Banner wielded that kind of power to sink careers in Philly. Im not defending him but he is only doing what he is told. Im sure banner didnt wake up one day and thought to himself I wanna be the scrooge of the NFL. That was Lurie orchestrating Banner actions.
-
You weren't there and can't be sure of anything. For all you know the way Banner held contract talks may have been the way he prefered to negotiate. He certainly didn't seem to be soft so why can't you believe it was his style and the man who hired him let him do his thing? Keep on speculating and trying to make it seem like fact, hollywood.
-
It seems more like you are making excuses for Banner.
Banner had as much to do with players leaving as anyone
in the Eagles front office. Banner is not the type of
person to be muzzled. Banner is always looking out for
number one. Himself. -
Romo Eagles fans left this site for several reasons. One of the main ones was the fact McNabb got traded and they no longer had their access to their God. Those people were clearly McNabb fans and not Eagles fans. Remember that it is still the offseason. People start showing up around training camp. The same goes for cryboys fan.
-
"No one in their right mind would wait another ten years for a Super Bowl"? Because what hollywood?...46 years has been enough? So you're telling me that after 46 years of waiting, waiting another ten will just be too much to handle? The Eagles sold out their stadium in 2011 and if they make it back to the playoffs this year the excitement will be there at the beginning of next season especially with this young group of players. It proves that even though some fans may not be happy with everything the Eagles may do (and we all now that they aren't), fans will show up as long as they continue to win. I have typed it on here before. It will take more than just a bad or an average season here or there to stop the fans from coming (it will certainly take more than your call for a boycott)...nothing less than a couple bad years in a row will stop the Eagle faithful from buying up the non-season ticket holder seats that are left before each game. They have been long gone the last decade or so without even a slight worry on whether a game will be blacked out.
Look, you aren't the only one that thinks it is unacceptable that Reid still has a job in Philly without hoisting the Lombardi. More and more fans will be ignoring this team the longer they go on without a championship but like always you only account for what helps you make your point. For every fan that bails on this team just because of the lack of a championship there will be a new young fan who gets their first taste of Eagles football with his (or her) father (or mother). Or maybe even a disintersted adult that gets talked into going to a game and gets to see them win at the Linc and feels the excitement. Most of us keep stating that anything besides a championship is unacceptable. To a point we mean that but look at what I stated earlier. 46 years, never a Super Bowl yet the Eagles still sell out their stadium because people love football and they will go to see a winner. It doesn't have to be a champion as long as they are competetive and win more often than not and there is no denying that the Lurie owned Eagles have done that. Is it possible that if Lurie gives Reid an extension this year just for getting the Eagles back to the playoffs that some people will stop coming to games?...sure it is but I would think with their waiting list on season tickets they would have nothing to worry about as long as they produced a winner.
-
...nice play on how you feel Banner left hollywood but if you pay any attention to what the media who is around the team says, he was forced out...it wasn't that he doesn't want any part of what he sees coming. You are right, why would he decide now is the time? The answer is he probably wouldn't and that is why what the media thinks makes more sense than your distorted view that he doesn't like the looks of the Eagles future.
-
You assume Banner was "pushed out". I think he knows in his heaqrt that Lurie is not winning a superbowl. And I think they parted on amicable terms but i believe it was Banner that probably initiated the move. The rest of the story is cover for a failing regime.
-
I assume because of what I read and what makes more sense...you only assume Banner initiated the parting so it fits into your hollywood style claims.
-
Bot really, he has an office in the complex and hes been there since the beginning. Not exactly an abrupt ending?
-
He's been with Lurie from day one and has been his friend for longer, I believe. Letting him go is pretty abrupt as it is.
-
It is? Why an office in the complex? This is wll choreographed. No ne is getting hurt here. They wont change much it makes money. Unfortunately, you read too much into things. This is a business model that works and makes beau coup bucks do you really think Lurie is gonna turn things upside down?
-
He has an office in the complex until he finds something else...actually makes more sense that it would be for a longtime employee and friend that Lurie let go than for someone who quit and wants to move on. Answer this hollywood...why would Banner quit his job without even so much as an offer from another franchise. I would guess because HE DIDN"T! He was let go!
I read into things? Much, much better than making up things! You accuse me of reading into things and ask me whether I think Lurie is going to turn things upside down? Where did I type anything close to that, hollywood? Please tell me where. -
When ou fire a President you dont have him hang around the office. Hes gone. Banner still has the keys and a consultant title. Not what i would call a "firing"
-
Oh, and when he bails on your team you let him hang around? Because that makes much more sense.
-
Banner is a money guy. We all know this. All Banner wants is to make more money. His eyes are on owning and running his own team someday. Banner simply got too big for the Eagles pond.
-
maybe but regardless most people like to finish what they start.
-
Countless coaches, players, and owners fail to finish what they started. Banner wants to be the man. You can't be the man when the big paychecks are going to the other guy. Banner accomplished his goals in Philly. He made them a winner. He got them a stadium, and a training facility with a cooperate name for crying out loud. Now he wants to be the guy with the name on the checks.
-
I doubt Banner can tap into that kind of money. Is he a billionnaire son like Lurie? He said his goal was winning championships are you finally admitting he meant NFC championships?
-
or division championships? cant have it both ways
-
Banner doesn't need to put up that much. All he needs to do is find some guys to front him while he runs the show.
-
Banner wants to get a team together to purchase a team and move it to LA. He's got one heck of a Resume to show for it.
-
whats his stake? Is he coughing up a 100 million or so?
-
His stake doesn't matter. He can hold a 1% share and still be the figure head. It's all speculative right now anyway.
-
thats not true. he is an accountant and a friend of a very wealthy mommas boy. Does he have JP Morgan or Goldman Sachs to use as a hedge fund?
-
you are right there will always be replacement(new) fans that replace those that depart. But, this is a all or nothing season. You see if Reid fails and he may, the whole system becomes a liability. This team has sucked since 2004. You need to wake up. They rode McNabb and now are attempting to ride a more injury prone Vick. W/O Vick this team wins 4 games maybe.
-
They haven't SUCKED hollywood. They have only had one losing season since 2004. They were 10-6 or better three times and ended the 2008 season in the NFC conference championship game after going 9-6-1 in the regular season. I would even say that their record was better than most teams in the NFL since 2004. You stating that they sucked in that span is exactly what I would expect from you and why everyone on here should take everything you type with a grain of salt. Did they play as well as we hoped or as good as they had in the 4-5 years prior...of course they didn't but no team had the success the Eagles had in those years without winning a championship.
You think what you want about McNabb and Vick but their lack of success when they weren't with the Eagles(McNabb's seemingly total loss of his game and Vick's sub 54% completion rate) shows more that they need(ed) Reid and the Eagles more than he needs them and that they rode the Eagles system to what made them better quarterbacks. -
not exactly stellar in the playoffs and losing to the Cardinals in NFC was a joke. Why is Dawkins dissing Reid?
-
Never stated it was stellar...only telling you they didn't suck...was what you typed...wasn't it? I absolutely agree with what Dawkin's says...Reid should be discussed and it should be questioned why after so many years and no championship he still has a job. I have no problem with that but he isn't the worst coach in the league nor did he just ride to all his wins on the back of a couple good quarterbacks like you would have us believe. You, like always, exaggerate just a bit when it comes to Reid.
-
Success w/o winning a championship? Thats loser talk.
-
That's the beauty of only discussing football on the internet. It doesn't affect my play on the field because if you haven't noticed, we aren't on the field. "Loser talk" because I have brought up the Eagles winning some games without a title?...you never have? If you haven't then you truly aren't a fan. You have discussed how successful McNabb has been with the Eagles yet I can't discuss how successful the Eagles have been since 2004 to help disprove your point? Stop being a hypocrite, hollywood!
-
Complete and utter truth here. Of course we know he wont address that contradiction in his thought process. He will ignore it like always.
-
I never said McNabb acheived greatness. I thought he was a highly skilled QB with flaws that could have been groomed to win a superbowl. McNabb owns some of the failure but the organization including Lurie, Reid & Banner own the vast majority of it.
-
Did you actually forget that you proclaimed him "The Greatest Eagle to ever play the game"? Over Reggie White who certainly achieved greatness...over Chuck Bednarik...over Steve Van Buren...great players all. Besides what does whether you typed McNabb reached greatness have anything to do with the point I made...IT DOESN'T!
Reid, Lurie and Banner did enough to help get the Eagles to quite a few NFC championship games and a half an hour away from winning a Super Bowl. I don't think any of them could do much while the players (or should I type player?) were turning the ball over against the Patriots. -
"I don't think any of them could do much while the players (or should I type player?) were turning the ball over against the Patriots."
Green don't you know it's everyone's fault when that player fails miserably? Rather everyone else is at fault. It's only that players fault when the Eagles win! All hail king 5! The greatest choke of all time! -
one of the greatest and perhaps the greatest but dont try to act like I never mentioned McNabbs flaws. You are lying as usual.
-
EZ you fail to mention McNabb getting the lead in the NFC championship vs cards. Who choked in that game?
-
I would put McNabb in same category as White. I think QB is a much tougher position to play. McNabb took alot more punishment than white. Its easy to dish out but harder to take.
-
I absolutely know you mentioned his flaws...along with a few other rips directed his way and then you proclaimed him the greatest Eagle to ever play the game (Not one of them...the GREATEST!).
White was one of the greatest defensive ends IN FOOTBALL hollywood! McNabb is not in the same class when you talk about the greatest quarterbacks in the game which is just one thing that made your claim so bogus (The other part being that I saw your rips at McNabb).
Eazy, I know hollywood's game. Blame Lurie, Reid and the rest of the FO for 99.9% of the Eagles shortcomings even if those shortcomings happen in BIG games...Give all the credit to mostly McNabb and Vick and a little to a few other players on the team and absolutely none to the FO for handpicking those players and personally insult a player or two (or even the whole team when the mood touches him) who are only looking to make a living out of something they love to do. Did I forget anything? -
Hollywood when you have over two minutes left in the game, with the ball in your hand, and you fail to win the game, you choked! Give the same scenario to a Manning, Brees, or Brady I think the outcome would be drastically different.
-
Nice of you to simply forget that McNabb was part of the reason they were down big in the first half against the Cardinals. He couldn't hit just about anyone (including a wide open receiver dragging across the middle). Exactly what I meant by never faulting McNabb and making up excuses.
-
[Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson's 2011 season was somewhat of a disappointment. He held out of camp for a short while and some questioned his focus.
Nonetheless the Eagles gave Jackson a big contract during the offseason. According to Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe, Jackson received his $47 million extension, in good measure, because former team president Joe Banner had his contract power usurped.
According to Bedard, Banner would have never done the deal.]
http://www.theredzone.org/BlogDescription/tabid/61/EntryId/27003/Report--Joe-Banner-would-not-have-done-DeSean-Jackson-s-deal/Default.aspx
And here you are Wood, defending a guy who would not have signed one of your favorite players. -
Its all insider junk. Banner has no problem letting the Eagles use his name eraser.
-
The Eagles didn't break this story. Banner leaked this to a Bostonian reporter. There is no direct quote from Banner, but it is certainly his modus operandi.
-
and Lurie has no connection to Boston? Lurie will never be a part of Philly. He needs to GO
-
The story is taken from a Banner perspective. It has Banner written all over it. Again I don't care if Lurie, Reid, or Banner goes. I just want whoever replaces them to be better. Bottom line is the proof is in the pudding. Banner had over a year and failed to sign McCoy and Jackson. Once he was out of the picture the contracts got done.
-
I didnt know Banner was spending his own money.
-
Dude Banner was in charge of contracts. That's why so many former Eagles players have some beef with the guy. Most of your issues about players leaving are directly related to Banner. That's what's funny about your comments. You spent years complaining about his tactics, and now you want to defend him to no end. Hollywood I know you are so blinded by your hatred for the Eagles, but everyone else isn't wrong here. Banner was very much in charge of contract negotiations. With that being the case I have little criticism for Banner, because on most of those contract decisions he was right on the money.
-
The owner of the team needs to go?...good luck with spearheading that move.
-
I wish.
-
And there he goes doing what he does best...twisting everything to fit his claims.
-
Im not twisting anything they are goofuss
-
Temper, temper now. I have watched you try to pass off your claims and "theories" as facts for a couple years now. I could probably write an essay on how your mind works and get an A+ on it. Maybe even an A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++. Whoops, "Christmas Story" moment.
-
Ill give you a B-
-
I think he wants Brahman back. The guy who never gave to the team, the city, or anyone else. The "Guy From France", must be the kind of owner he loves. Just thinking about Brahman makes me all the more thankful Lurie is the owner.
-
Im not defending him. I think hes a piece of garbage. I couldnt care less about him. If he got hit by a car I wouldnt stop what I was doing. Is that a good defense?
-
You may not be defending him but this is typical you. Since he is no longer with the team somehow try to link why he is no longer with them to some of your claims and even ignore what is written by the media who actually have talked to people involved.
-
you need to grow up and have a novice understanding of business. If you think Banner is leaving broke and destitute you are naive. He leaves with a nice consulting fee and severance package worth millions. Included is a clause not to speak poorly of the organization and to remain silent when discussing corporate business. He may have left but he has company obligations and one of them is to let the company spin the story anyway they want. GET IT!
-
Again hollywood, where did I type that he is leaving the team broke? You truly do just make things up in that head of yours, don't you? All this is about is my believing he was let go and you wanting to link your theory of the Eagles being a poorly run organization and Banner somehow finally realizing that after 18 years or so. It doesn't make any sense especially with him quitting and not having another job in place. You ignore what makes sense and sometimes even facts in trying to get your points across and the funniesst part is that you seem to get angry when questioned. Try to pass off what is only true in your mind as fact and you will be called on it!
-
You just choose to ignore simple business facts. He is obligated to the Eagles right now. They can say or do whatever they want and he must remain silent. I would if it meant getting paid wouldnt you? You know what his payout is? How do you know his contract isnt back loaded with an exit agreement. This is big corporate business. They dont just fire people after 18 years without a PR firm to backup the change. Get real. This is well planned. McCoy and Jackson would have gotten signed with or without Banner. The next issue is Vick. Maybe that why they signed McCoy and Jackson.
-
"Business facts" (or anything else for that matter) doesn't make a scenario that you painted in your head true. I don't know anything about the matter except for what I heard and read...just like you. The majority of the media (almost every story I have heard or read) think that the only scenario that works is that there was a power struggle between Reid and Banner and Banner was the loser and lost his job. There were reports of a power struggle between them last year which helps make this scenario more believable. Looking at everything else involved with the situation (including a man all of a sudden leaving his job he held for almost two decades without another job lined up) makes much more sense than your suggestion that he is bailing on an organization that is on a downward trend. Another question you fail to mention and stay away from is why would the money guy bail just because he thinks the team may not field a winner? They will still make their money and this team has had a great average in winning seasons under Lurie and Banner (especially with Reid) no matter how you want to spin it. Again, your scenario (that has no facts attached to it at all, like usual) makes no sense except maybe to a man hellbent on trying to discredit the organization.
What Vick issue? If Vick plays well he keeps his position and his HUGE contract. If he has another down year they move on and look for a starting quarterback elsewhere. Not an issue at all. Are you telling me that after two and a half years of not pulling your weight at your job you would expect to keep it? -
No superbowl. Winning average is not a superbowl. The Eagles have maybe the best taxpayer financed stadium deal of any pro football team so they arent going out on a limb by putting a winning average together. The city and taxpayers did that. I cant think of any team with a brand new stadium that doesnt have a superbowl. Most due that I know.
-
What does having a NEW stadium and Super Bowl championship have to do with each other?????? It doesn't really matter, all you are doing is steering this discussion off topic like you normally do when you feel a discussion slipping away from you. I'm sure Banner would have loved to hoist the Lombardi along with Lurie, I would guess that he feels like he leaves Philly with unfinished business...all the more reason I doubt he made the choice to leave. You insisting that he left because he sees a sinking ship is way off base because:
#1 The ship is NOT sinking! The Eagles are still making money and should be set to have a good year (depending on Vick mainly).
#2 Why would Banner leave a job he has held for almost 2 decades without a job even lined up? (he has a cushy job that most feel he did well...Why would anybody in their right mind walk away from that without another job...it makes absolutely no sense...if he wanted to leave he would probably wait until he lined something up first!)
#3 Reports about a power struggle last year and Banner's sudden departure seem to go hand in hand
Please show me one report, one blog, one anything that agrees with your assessment on why Banner left. I don't want to see anything that just says that someone felt it was his decision...I want to see that they feel he is leaving because the Eagles are heading towards bad days and hard times. -
Reports are surfacing that the Eagles are looking to put 60 million dollars of their own money to upgrade the Linc (a building the city owns)and are considering several different changes ranging from a sports bare to more seats. Hardly sounds like a plan of a man looking to sell his team like you previously mentioned hollywood. By the way can you tell me how much the Norman Brahman and Harry Gamble connection put into the Vet? I seriously think if one of the many rats in the building stole a piece of cheese those two would have fought the rat for it.
-
Didn't hollywood claim that Braman was hurt by the start of free agency? Talk about excuses. Byron Evans and Mark McMillan were on WIP over the weekend and McMillan said that he thinks in his years with the Eagles he only saw Braman once. Now that is what you call an invisible owner.
-
He knew once free agency started the Eagles would be decimated. But I dont care because you see unlike you GTD I have a life outside of football. You find no irony that the the Banner story was leaked to a Bostonian paper. They dont even consider the inquirer their home paper.
-
I'll agree that he didn't want any part of free agency, hollywood but you kid yourself if you think it was because he KNEW it would decimate the Eagles. That is just hollywood spin for admitting Braman wasn't going to fork out the money to keep the team together. That is exactly what you bury Lurie and his regime for yet since you seem to believe that Braman was a better owner you will never admit this. Here is another point I will throw out there about Braman that I'm sure you will spin. NFL free agency started in 1993 and Braman sold the team to Lurie in 1994. Do you honestly think it wasn't connected? Braman bailed because he didn't want to get tied up with paying the crazy contracts...he let one of the greatest DEs to ever play the game walk away in the first year of free agency (and a very good TE in Keith Jackson) and the next year allowed Joyner and Simmons to walk. You keep guaranteeing that Lurie will bail on his team and that is exactly what your boy Braman did when the going got tough. You keep on claiming Lurie will sell soon although there are signs that point to the opposite...that he is in it for the long haul. You are just hoping he will sell so Reid will be gone and also so you can type "I told you so". No matter what you believe, the Eagles franchise has never had the kind of continued success in the Super Bowl era that Lurie has brought with him since he bought the team. There are owners out there who do roll through their ownerships with only worrying about making money. 5 NFC championship games and 1 Super Bowl appearence in 18 years proves to me that Lurie isn't one of those owners. Could they have done better, absolutely but I believe for the most part the resources were there. He wasn't the person who drafted Freddie Mitchell, Reggie Brown and Todd Pinkston. He didn't bring in Torrance Small and Charles Johnson. He stepped back and allowed the Eagles to bring in potential cancers TO and Michael Vick and many other top free agents over the years (Runyan, Samuel, Kearse...last year Asomugha and a few other nice pick ups. 4 out of 18 years that the Eagles not only targeted the top free agent on the market...they signed him. 32 teams in the NFL...how many of them do you think can make that claim? Not many, hollywood...not many. You do what you feel you need to do...call them cheap, claim they suck...call the men who got the Eagles to the Super Bowl in 2004 (and seem to be on the right path of TRYING to get them back) and 5 NFC championship games in 18 years (and less for Ried) the worst owner and coach in the NFL. It's no wonder with that attitude that you can't enjoy the season while it's progressing. I still don't get why you bother with the team or this site. What a waste of time in my opinion.

May. But of course ticket prices and fees will go up. Thansk for the addition Lurie. The only addition this sorry rear end organization needs is a Lombardi trophy. They want to keep you drunk in luxory so you will forget what they are there for.
-
You get it romo...hollywood doesn't. He is so blinded by his hatred for the Eagles front office that he let's that predicate everything he types on here and also let's it get in the way of him actually hoping the team does well. I honestly do get some of the anger he feels at times...I get that quite a few fans feel the hatred for Reid, Lurie and Banner but a true fan doesn't allow their hatred to make them happy when the team struggles like hollywood does.
-
Im not happy when the team struggles. Im not happy ONLY because they havent won a superbowl. Thats it. Like Banner said "there is nothing left to do but win a superbowl". And he is right. Got him fired.
-
I dont need luxury watering holes. And I am a true fan because I wont settle for the crap you like. You think Lebron james was satisfied being second best or worse. Ask him how he feels today and im sure he wont say i like winning didvision titles.
-
No one NEEDS it and let's not spin this. It was only brought up to show you that your claim about Lurie selling the team soon is bogus...nothing more.
True fan because you won't put up with not winning a Super Bowl? Yeah, because you whining on a website calling for your ridiculous boycotts and not showing up for home games or buying gear has put Lurie in a precarious situation. He may have to claim bankruptcy. Wow...talk about kidding yourself! -
Spin it whatever way you want to, hollywood. I have seen what you type on here (you even have denied some of it until I showed it to you) and it goes way beyond someone that just wants the team he roots for to win Super Bowl. You and I both know that.
-
YOU ARE RIGHT---JOE BANNER--WOULD NOT HAVE DONE ANY OF THE DEALS,dawkins would still be a eagle, and mentor young guys,on jim johnson defense,he would have been a coach and mentor--stupid not signing for vet leadership---that was banner, scrap that salary cap scale sometimes--players are happy, leads to focus play on the field---
