It's Time To Play Guess How Many Eagles Made More Money Than Jackson Last Year.
It’s time to play a game called: Guess How Many Eagles Make More Money than Desean Jackson?
It’s a fairly easy game, but I am betting you all would be a little surprised with some of the guys who make more money than Desean. I know people are a little down on Jackson with him wanting to get a more money and all, but considering the fact he and McCoy are the lowest paid starters on the team and the fact (unlike McCoy) he’s been to multiple Pro Bowls, I can understand his frustration. When you compare that to some of the guys who make more money than him, I could understand him being down right pissed at the Eagles. Here is a look at some of the players who make as much if not more (much much more) than Jackson made last season. One last thing I believe my number to be correct however it could be off. If it is off then my total number of players who made more than Jackson is actually more than my number. It should also be noted that every “Dream Team” addition made more money than Jackson. A lot more money than Jackson!
555,000 Desean Jackson
Riley Cooper: made 490,000, nearly as much money as Jackson despite being 1/10th as talented.
Victor Abiamiri: Hasn’t played a down in like two years. He stole more money from the Eagles than Jackson makes.
Jason Avant: Twice the pay half the talent.
Ronnie Brown: I think he should have passed some of his check to Jackson instead of trying to make that pass in the end zone.
Jon Dorenbos: You know the friggin long snapper.
Queen Dunlap: He made the same salary???????
Brandon Graham: He got paid to get fat.
Joselio Hanson: The guy got cut and still came back to make more money than Jackson!
Jamaal Jackson: Got paid twice as much than Jackson to lose his job
Akeem Jordan: Fringe player
Winston Justice: Has anyone seen this man?
Trevor Laws makes the same salary. Did he play last season?
Juquay Parker Made nearly 3 million more than Jackson just to jump off sides
Owen Schmitt: Made the same salary to barely be used all season
Daryl Tapp: Just shameful
Vince Young: A million more than Jackson just to sink a “Dream Team”
Steve Smith: Literally stole 3times as much money as Jackson earned from the Eagles.
25 Eagles made more money than Jackson last season. I’m not saying he was in the right for some of his childish antics from a year ago, but when a stiff like Victor Abiamiri makes more money than you to stay at home, or a magician whose only job is to hike a ball through his legs makes more than you, I could see being a little disgruntled.

It's the way it sometimes works out Eazy, as unfortunate as it is. I don't think there are many on this site that don't think he deserves MUCH more money than the Eagles are paying him. You have to take into account what Jackson has said regarding his upcoming negotiations when they were in their earler stages (he was looking to break the bank, he was after top dollar...16 million is top dollar right now although he obviously won't get close to that) when discussing what others think of him right now. That and the fact that with this talk and his antics he didn't come close to showing anyone he deserves close to top dollar in a contract year. Of course there are going to be questions about his value and also whether there are better options instead of giving into his demands.
-
It's the way it works out only if the team allows it to be that way GTD. Again I don't deny his actions were terrible last year, but for the Eagles to spend so much on fringe players who ultimately did more to lose games for the Eagles than win them and at the same time stiff Jackson out of any money is ridiculous. I can name about 5 guys the Eagles could have removed to get in the ball park of even a one year deal for like 7-8 million last season for Jackson. I don't believe Jackson asked for 16 Mil. That's more money than even Vick is making and to be honest I think some of the stuff leaked out was just smoke by both sides. I had heard the Eagles and Jackson have never had any formal discussions about money up to this point only that they Eagles mentioning Jackson's demands were too high. That's why you negotiate. If I guy thinks he's worth 16 Mil then I don't see why in the world he would willingly sign a contract for 9.5 Mil considering that nearly half of what he thinks he's worth.
-
The price I brought up wasn't truly about the money but more about how people react to his demands and comments and whether they think the Eagles should resign him or what they should sign him for. I typed to you after another comment below that we DON't know what has been said and done behing closed doors. We are only seeing the ugly aspect of a contract negotiation right now and truly don't know the price the Eagles or Rosenhaus/Jackson have placed on Jackson's value.
-
I certainly think it's a hard thing to decipher. What is the value of a guy who does things that make the other guys around him better? You can't use stats, because they don't tell the whole story and you can't ignore the bad attitude nor the untimely drops. Ruben Frank on the radio today said he believed Jackson was worth about 8 Mil. I would say about 9 Mil. Your right that no one knows what's really going on behind closed doors and anything that is written right now is speculative at best. I think the kid wants to be in Philly for the right price and the Eagles want him back for the right price. They just have to figure out what that number is.
-
i think 7-8 mil is a good number for him. asante got 9 and he is basically the same as desean but as a CB. makes the big play but gets burnt at times n cant tackle to deseans big play taken out of games sometimes
-
GTD wrote early Jackson was looking for 10-12 and the Eagles were looking to pay like 8 Mil. Well if that's true the obvious number is about 9 to 9.5 Mil. They could even place incentives in the contract to ensure they get maximum effort out of Jackson at all times. Considering Jackson is willing sign a Franchise Tag for 9.5 and the Eagles are willing to pay it, I don't see why both sides can't agree on this.
-
You think its a problem. I spelled this situation out two years ago. Hes getting RIPPED OFF. No if, amds or buts about it. A certain someone keeps mentioning "honor" like he knows anything about being in Jacksons situation. The average NFL player has a a 5 year useful life. Jackson has a more than a right to be pissed that this scumbag team didnt negotiate in good faith. He was GROSSLY underpaid. And im suprised he even suited up last year. he should have held out but fat man lied to him and said they would respond with good faith negotiaitions if he showed up. He did and they shoved a big rod right in his rear again. I would make the Eagles pay out their ass if I were him and he will. he has the leverage now. They have to franchise him and he can do the same thing again. Jacksons turn to say gotcha.
-
Two years ago the problem could not have been fixed, but last year there was no excuse. The truth is the Eagles (when they took a hard stance with Jackson) knew they had little money to negotiate with him and frankly didn't plan to. He pouted and too it like an unwilling soldier. I wonder how people would feel if they were in his shoes? It's hard for people to comprehend, because they just assume their all just millionaires, but Jackson clearly isn't. To compare it would be like doing a 50K per year job for like 500 dollars a year. Nobody in their right mind would stand for that.
-
Honestly...do any of us know what has been said or done behind closed doors? How do we truly know how the Eagles feel about Jackson and whether they even want to get a deal done with him? Maybe they think they can do better in free agency. Maybe no matter what they say they actually would just rather franchise and trade him. Receiver is deep in free agency this year which should drop the price so maybe they know they can stay strong without giving into his demands. Maybe Rosenhaus isn't budging from that 10 million he possibly is asking for and is telling Jackson that there are multiple teams waiting for him to hit free agency. It wouldn't be the first time a player has gotten bad advice. You have to keep in mind exactly what the Eagles are looking at. Throwing millions of dollars at a small receiver who will never catch 80-90 balls a year and whose production has dropped yet that hasn't stopped his growing ego. Also like I stated earlier if they give him that mega deal he will probably not be returning punts so the Eagles lose yet another part of him that makes him so valuable. If his asking price doesn't drop the Eagles will be making the right decision by franchising him. Either trade him or let him have one more year to prove he deserves that big deal.
-
Of course none of us can truly say they know what the Eagles are thinking; however, I will state the Eagles tend to become conservative with free agency after the spurge on it the prior year especially if the players they choose fail to pan out. If Jackson isn't in their plans I doubt a free agent wide receiver is. Also this team doesn't do a lot of big free agent signings of receivers. Couple that with their history with T.O. (who was a trade, but was someone elses diva) I think it will be Jackson or bust.
-
Just putting out some scenarios, Eazy. Like I stated, we don't know what is actually happening or what the Eagles are thinking. My biggest fear would be that Jackson walks and the Eagles don't replace him with a viable replacement. I have stated over and over that resigning him or bringing in a top replacement and signing a top free agent MLBer are the top priorities the Eagles should be thinking about...to not take care of these two issues would be creating a big hole and ignoring another in my opinion.
-
Expect your biggest fear, because if they do let Jackson walk there is no indication they will replace him with a free agent. In fact if Jackson is gone then you can expect a whole lot of Riley Cooper and I hope that he's better than he has shown so far.
-
How do you KNOW that the Eagles didn't try to negotiate? How do you KNOW that Rosenhaus didn't tell them if they weren't willing to come to the table with such and such an offer to not bother coming to negotiate at all? Let me answer that. You don't! Just like MOST of your comments and predictions it is based off of what goes on in that mind of yours and isn't based on any fact at all.
-
the eagles always spin it like they negotiated but over and over the results are the same. The player leaves and we get nothing inreturn.
-
"The player leaves and we get nothing in return"? What player(s) the Eagles didn't end up resigning went on to STAR in the league, hollywood? Corey Simon?...Trotter?...Westbrook? (whose kness were shot)...Let's discuss guys they ended up going through contract issues with and traded away...Sheppard? (who wanted a new deal 2 years into a multi year deal even though he was often injured)....Sheldon Brown?...McNabb? Who hollywood, who? The only player I would agree with you on is maybe Dawkins (even though he was 34-35 years old and seemed to be slipping) who probably deserved better and mainly because the Eagles are still struggling to replace him. I might even give you 35 year old Akers although Henery had a very nice year and could have a long and hopefully productive career in Philadelphia ahead of him. Stop exaggerating...please.
-
i would argue sheldon brown. he was still really good for us n played pretty good for the browns. he was never s star CB in the league cause he doesnt get picks but his impact was as big as winfield for the vikings just no exposure, stopped WRs, played tough, came up in run support. plus his replacements r as good as dawkins'. how they did dawkins was just stupid dont think anyone can argue that
-
Brown was probably the best of the bunch after leaving the Eagles (besides Dawkins) and absolutely played with heart but I wouldn't call him a star...solid but no star. Speed was never there and he was getting beat deep more and more his last year here (probably had a lot to do with not having any safety help). Loved to watch him tackle though...something all the Eagles corners didn't do too well last season.
The reason I get on hollywood about this is because he NEVER looks at contract negotiations with a realistic view. There were legitimate reasons the Eagles had reservations about signing every player I mentioned but hollywood just wants to look on it as the Eagles should just open their wallets and let the player and agent take whatever they're looking for whenever they want it. Brown and Sheppard already had contracts and were both making waves about wanting more although Brown kept it a little more low key. Dawkins and McNabb were coming close to the ends of their careers and Simon and Trotter wanted more than the Eagles were willing to give them. The Eagles aren't the only team that does this. We have already discussed some of the players that haven't been offered new contracts even though their old ones run out in March...Ray Rice, Matt Forte...look at the list of free agents that are on that long list of wide receivers or that talented group of MLBers we are all hoping the Eagles dip into. Look at how disrespected Peyton Manning is being after giving his whole career to the Colts and winning them a Superbowl yet if you listen to hollywood (and some others on here) the Eagles are the only ones to treat their longtime quarterbacks with that much disrespect. I think we would all be surprised if the Colts stick by Manning with Luck sitting there on the board and Manning trying to come back from a couple of neck surgeries. If it was the Eagles thinking of not honoring Mannings contract I'm sure hollywood would be having a fit over this. Every team parts with players if they think what the player brings isn't worth the money they have to pay them. It's a part of professional football. -
i know what u mean just wish we kept sheldon n dawkins they both were better than what we had to replace them same reason i wanted mcnabb to stay n still think he would of been better with us than he was with other teams n better than kolb possible vick this year. but i dont know why any team/owner would let forte or rice see the light of free agncey. ill be pissed if shady does.
-
Whatever the real number he wants is, they don't seem to think he's worth it. Otherwise they'd have signed him.
My guess is they either feel what he does is easily replaceable; or that what he does isn't all that important to them.
He's wanted a new deal for two years, and they haven't given an inch on it. Why? Because that is how they do business with EVERYBODY. To expect something different for him just because he's him, is to not take into account who he's dealing with.
He said he'd sign the tag. He could've said he wouldn't. When Eagles players have refused to sign the tag, the Eagles lifted it and let those players (Trotter and Simon) test the market.
Jackson doesn't want to test the market. That's why he said he'd sign the tag. My guess is that whatever he's asking for, he or his agent don't think he'll get it. Or close to it. -
Wow I sure hope you wont be blinded by your hatred of the player when he's back in Eagle green next season.
-
While he's FAR from a favorite of mine, I don't hate the guy. I just think once they move on from him, Vick will have more than one consistent WR to throw to, and that'll make the Eagles harder to beat.
I think it's beyond debating that under, McNabb AND Vick AND Young, Jackson has been rather easy to take away in the Eagles attack. If it's a matter of having a guy to run down field real fast, to open up the field, surely you don't need to pay a guy 10+ per year to do that simple task.
I just don't see the dominance in a guy who's never caught more than 1 touchdown in any game of his 4 year career. Maclin has done it 3 times already. -
That was the way they do business. When they were winning with Mcnabb as the QB. To rid themselves of another fan favorite will result in a apathetic fanbase. They are stuck and will tag & play him. There isnta good alternative.
-
The removal of McNabb had nothing to do with the fans. The Eagles do not keep or release players or coaches off the mindsets of the fanbase. I don't care if Jackson stays or goes. I just care if the Eagles win. I think Jackson staying make that a better chance of happening, but the Jackson they need is the one from two seasons ago and not the guy from last year. Most fans think this way. They are only concerned with wins and losses.
-
A good winning team might look confident acting like this but the loser Eagles only show their ignorance and arrogance. This FO deserves to have the fans turn their backs to them. they are a selfish lying bunch.
-
Jeremiah Trotter was right when he said with the Eagles FO is vindictive and untrustworthy. This is just one of the many things that separates them from Philly's true "gold standard" I'm talking, of course, about the Phillies.
The Eagles have a pre-determined value of a player and are never willing to negotiate from it. If a player spurns their insulting offer, they get petty. They should be taking notes on how the Phils are handling Hamels' contract situation. Giving him that one year deal does two things. One it keeps Hamels away from arbitration and more importantly, it lets him know that they truly want to look after him and are willing to make it work. Just watch, RAJ will take care of Cole.
Now tell me. Do the Eagles do that? I think not.
-
they r kind of doing that by tagging him but i thought u were talking of course about
