“My job is to win right now,” Kelly said. “How do you think I’d be received in Philly if I told them we were going to write off this year? Those people that are waving to me on the streets right now, that isn’t going to happen. But that’s never been my mentality, either. We’re not writing anything off. We’re going out there to compete and see how it falls. If I went in the locker room and said this is going to be a really good year for us to get for the following year, that’s not going to work. No one has a mindset like that.”

ATTENTION quitters! You can knock off all your talk about "tanking" and "seeing what QB "X" or "Y" can do for the future".

Charles Kelly has told you that his job is to win NOW. What ever he does this year, will be the best he can do. He will be held to his statement all year long. He now must back it up.

You want to talk about the future? The future is NOW.

  • So is do you think that winning direction is with Mike Vick, because I've been watching him for three years now and I think it's pretty clear we aint winning with him.
  • To tell the truth I have no idea.

When Reid left I was convinced that Vick was leaving too. That part is well known.

I hoped we would get an experienced defensive minded, NFL coach. It's no secret that defensive minded coaches tend to favor heavy run systems because it lets the Defense have longer rests. That in mind, I was ready for the Nick Foles era to begin with a LOT of Shady and maybe even some Bryce Brown thrown in.

Then we went out and got Kelly.

You and I saw and discussed some of the last Bowl game he coached. Neither one of us said good things about what we saw. I'm not sure what you were looking for when you watched, but I was looking at his Offense (since he was a rumored candidate).

What I saw DID NOT say Nick Foles, but it did say Vick. However since Vick was leaving, Kelly made no sense. Then Kelly came in and Vick was re-worked and stayed.

Even if Shurmur is here to help translate Kelly's style to an NFL format, the basic skills of throwing on the run and improvising are two things that have been listed as weaknesses in Foles game as far back as his Draft scouting report.

So to answer your question A SECOND TIME, I really can't say if Vick is the guy for winning, but I CAN say that I don't believe in Foles running THIS system. WCO? Sounds good. Ground and Pound? Great! Air Coryell? Give it a try. Run n Shoot? Okay. Spread? Okay. But the Spread Option? Nope. Nothing in watching Foles play last year leads me to believe hen can do what Colin Kaepernick did last year. (As Kaepernick is so far the poster-child for the well run Spread Option).

  • Well Ruckus and GTD dont think so. Its the overthinkinkingkingking Philly fan that says we have to plan for three years down the road. Lose for a QB draft pick. Tank the season. They dont know anything about the fundamental rules of sport. You never not try to win. Nothing worse than being labled quitters. Warren Sapp said it. Frank Gore said it
  • I just wanted to put a bullet in this silly debate of "to tank or not to tank".

Kelly's statement puts all that to rest. This is not a season for "experimenting" (at least not early).

Spots brought up the idea of seeing what the reserves have, if we're at 2-12 and have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. I happen to agree with that. In fact I would fault Kelly if he DIDN'T do that in that situation. I just can't respect the idea of throwing in the towel in July.

Real men may get beaten sometimes, but we certainly DON'T quit.
