RELAX, CULLEN JENKINS ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE.

CULLEN Jenkins isn't going anywhere. He was the kind of difference maker against the run and the pass this team hasn't had since Jerome Brown. More impressively Jenkins did it in a system that places him at a disadvantage. (There is no way you can say the Wide 9 is comparable to the 46.)

Jenkins made 3.85 last year and is due 4.25 in bonuses with a base of 2.75 in 2012, for a total of 7 million in 2012. After this year he's at a flat 4 in 2013 and 2014, before jumping to 6 in 2015. Right now he's the best DT on the roster, the most vocal defensive leader, and the linchpin of the pass rush.

Look around the league ( http://www.spotrac.com/top-salaries/nfl/2012/defensive-tackle/ (for some reason Jenkins is listed as an End) ) and it's easy to see the Eagles aren't at all overpaying. Jenkins is hardly bargain bin, but his contract is a no brainer in terms of should you keep it.

Barring selection of a DT in the 1st round, Jenkins stays.

  • If the Eagles release Jenkins then it would be an obvious admission to the fact they were all in last season and crapped out. I don't think they will let Jenkins go. I think they will draft another lineman at some point in the draft, but they will keep Jenkins.
  • I was worried about the Jenkins deal shortly after he signed it. It seemed like maybe Jenkins and the Eagles were okay with this deal with little guaranteed money. Maybe an agreement where Jenkins could walk away if he and the Eagles had a good/great season and he could pursue a better deal. If the Eagles do let him go it will definitely show that they are not serious about winning a championship and that Reid is untouchable (certainly wouldn't seem like they were gearing up for a run and that would be overly confident and odd for a coach who has final say and may be in his last year). I doubt the Eagles will want to show their fans that either is true. I think Jenkins will stay.
  • I would rather keep Jenkins and dump Patterson and Laws.
  • Deal restructured. Jenkins stays.

    Reid stays? CHECK!
    Castillo stays? CHECK!
    Jenkins stays? CHECK!
    Jackson goes?....
  • Still a little shocked how happy you are at the fact Castillio is staying and Jackson might be going....
  • Happy doesn't usually enter the equation for me when it comes to the F.O. (the FA run last year and the T.O./Kearse signings being exceptions).

Unlike most Eagles fans I don't waste time hoping for moves they aren't about to make. For example: we're going into FA, then the Draft, then Minis, OTAs, etc, and folks here are STILL calling for changes to the coaching staff. Those changes aren't about to happen now, so why keep crying for them now?

Those moves, IF they get made, won't happen until at least January. Seriously, when was the last time a coach here was fired mid-season? In the meantime the idea is to urge the coaches we have, to manage the team they have, the best they can.

But this I suppose, is that whole "If you aren't with us, you're against us" thing. So be it.
  • I don't see how you are trying to set yourself apart here. You're no different from any other Eagles fan. You hope they will or wont make moves. You hope they will or wont make changes. All of us (I assume)... well at least those who aren't fake IDs want the best for the Eagles. We just tend not to agree on what the best is or how they should go about achieving it. Now that Jeff Lurie decided to stick with Reid, I just hope he proves me wrong and wins a super bowl. I don't care about his record he's padding. Just getting the Lombardi. Now if Reid collapses mid season I certainly could see him getting fired and Mornhinweg being placed as interim coach. This isn't what I want to happen (unless Marty wins the super bowl), but if Reid doesn't shape up it certainly could happen.
  • Okay I'll simplify my point. When the Eagles move on, so do I.
When they don't do what I want I NEVER enter into protracted bellyaching over it. That, (if you look at this site, Bleedinggreennation, philadelphiaeagles.com, NFL.com, 94WIP, or other spots) DOES set me apart from a very large chunk of the fan base.
