Report: Plaxico Burress Wants To Be An Eagle. Round Two

Plaxico Burress is once again reported to wanting to join the Philadelphia Eagles and once again I believe the Eagles should make this move. Recently I heard Burress discussing how much he loves the NFC East and he mentioned the fans of NY and Philly specifically. As good as Desean Jackson is the fact is he's no Red Zone threat and neither is Maclin. Despite the opinions of some Riley Cooper hasn't done anything to live up to the hype he's suddenly getting. Despite Cooper's size the Eagles struggled terribly in the Red Zone last season. Burress on just out of prison legs caught 8 touchdowns from perhaps the worst starting quarterback in football. The Eagles leading touchdown grabber only made 5 (one more than Jackson) and that's not nearly enough. The Eagles certainly need to be prudent, but if the numbers add up they need to consider getting themselves a real Red Zone threat. For as much as Jackson opens up the field for other players in the field of play, a Burress would practically do the same for them in the Red Zone. This time the Dream Team needs to get this thing done.

  • The Eagles with Burress, Celek, McCoy, and Vick working in the Red Zone should become very rewarding.
  • but without Jackson this becomes a sideshow
  • Riley Cooper shouldnt even be mentioned in the discussion
  • Well there are some out there who think that guy is good.
  • like ?
  • Some people on this site.
  • Who?
  • There are those who think Cooper is better than Jackson.
    They know who they are.
  • Signin him should be relatively cheap if he is saying this. This gives the eagles front office all of the power except for burress signing somewhere else but even so we can still look at the draft for a role player
  • The Eagles WR corps could use a veteran guy to close games that's for sure. Vick does well with big targets (i.e. Alge Crumpler). The move makes more sense than relying on plays of 30 plus yards to win games.
  • If he's available via free agency, and he wants to come here... we woudl be stupid not to kick those tires.
  • We didn't kick those tires last season. Instead they chose to go after Steve Smith who was a total waste of money.
  • Gary Clark= Djax
    Ricky Sanders= Maclin
    Art Monk= Plaxico

    Superbowl proven.
  • I repect Avant for his tough catches but he isnt 3rd string material. I like Djax, Maclin and Burress. That has a winning sound.
  • Great blog--someone said above, that HE WANTS TO COME TO EAGLES,the eagles should make the move---always wanted a vet big wide recver, with avant maclin and djax,if some goes down,go got a vet wide recver and proven super bowl and all. Get that damn defense fix ? a super bowl contender 12-4 on record,if eagles organazation bust a move, why not they gve vince young 5 million for nothing and ronnie brown---holla
  • Not to mention the guy can block.
  • so do our WR how do u not see it?
  • Sounds like Jackson will get the Franchise tag. I sure would love to see a focused Jackson next season and see what he can do.
  • They wont trade him. The Eagles have enough problems with the fans. they not only will keep him they will sign a defensive FA before the draft and maybe Plax. The FO needs to energize the fan base. I think many are walking to the exit signs.
  • I don't think they can trade Jackson. Nobody will trade for him. What's his value anyway? You can claim he's not worth top flight money (not you the Eagles), but in the next moment expect a high quality pick.
  • But lets face it EZ, this is only a small step in the right direction. They need to make a splash again in the open market to be an elite team. Need a LB / WR(plax)/ RB or Ronnie Brown/ Vince Young and possibly a safety.
  • I like VY and think he will be better this year.
  • I would rather they cut ties with Young, promote Kafka, and use one of those second round picks to draft a quarterback of the future.
  • i would rather use those second round picks on players for now n try to get some starter out of them n make a run this year. i know u think its impossible with reid but i rather give him every weapon possible.
  • they dont need plax it would just be a major upgrade over cooper. brown can go n they can bring in a small addition in Steve Slaton or a bigger one in LT. VY can walk n bring in AJ feeley who would be just as productive if not more. the major need is a star at LB.
  • I sort of agree, but honestly the Eagles need to do better in the Red Zone and their smallish Wide receivers are simply not good enough in the Red Zone. Burress nearly doubled the Eagles leading touchdown receivers. They need more productivity in the Red Zone.
  • i agree but not getting himm isnt the end of the season
  • I wont go that far, but the guys scores touchdowns. The Eagles last season in the Red Zone were a mess. I don't think just getting him puts them over the top, but having him would help in my opinion.
  • yea he is what people think cooper is. best move for cooper is to dream the pats get him somehow n he can play with brady who knows how to get the most out of WR like gafney branch n others
  • They do need linebackers. I would love to see them draft one or get the kid from the Falcons. They could also use Tulluch from Detroit. Let's see if Reid finally steps up and gets a linebacker or will they just go back to the guys they have.
  • theres alot of good LBs in free agency. the two u said dan connor david hawthorne dqwell jackson (injury problems so might be signed by us) hell i might even take a look at london fletcher. hes old slow but always making plays n can tackle. keep him out of coverage as much as possible n he can work, hes great at stopping screens n the RB out of the back field still. no reason to not get an upgrade at LB this year.
  • I wouldn't mind it if they went the free agency route on at least one linebacker. I think they need two, but with all their young guys at the position I doubt they go two. They at least need to improve on Foku and they need to decide once and for all if Chaney is their guy in the middle.
  • agreed personaly i would like to get one of the guys i said put them in the middle move chaney out n draft burfict who i think can play all 3 positions something the eagles love. if they go out n get lofton though i doubt the get a LB round 1 most likely a DL player maybe Devon Still from penn state. cant wait to hear all the rape questions if we do get him. if those were the two moves in FA n the draft i would like it but not love it. we shall see what happens.
  • In the draft they need to concentrate on defense with a DL or LB as the first choice and Ol or LB with second choice.
  • I hate to admit this, but DL might be one of their tip priorities this draft. It is their oldest position so I could easily see them upgrading there. I think quarterback is a high priority as well. Vick's not getting any younger and I don't see the future on the roster right now. I could see them bypassing both linebacker and safety, because in their minds they already have too many young players at those positions.
