So Why Did Jackson Call Out Revis..... Sort Of?

I didn't really put much credence into Jackson's comment although it seemed a rather dumb idea after he's finally broken out of a three game slump, but lately this comment has gotten a lot of play on the radio and the internet. It does make one wonder why Jackson would even try to stir up the best corner in the business considering the last time he went up against him he was virtually shut down? Brian Haddad of 610 WIP yesterday made an interesting albeit conspiracy theory like suggestion. He suggested that Jackson done this to make it harder for Foles to have a good game by basically taking himself out and motivating his opponent to play even better than the best. Wow that's something that I would expect maybe from a blogger and not from a Radio talks how host. If this were Jackson's intentions then if he truly wanted to throw the game all he had to do was keep his mouth shut and play poorly. I don't think Jackson is looking to jeopardize the success of the entire team for the sake of saving his buddy. No what's really happened here is a case of ESPN shock journalism. They headline an article that states Jackson says Revis can't cover him, but when you read the article it's clear Jackson is stating that he's faster than Revis. Well duh no big deal there. In fact it seems Jackson was fairly complementary towards Revis in the article (back tracking a little), but once ESPN threw up the headline it has grown legs and now Jackson looks like the guy who has put his foot in his mouth. To that point Jackson can no longer tank this game for his friend even if he wanted to ( which personally I don't believe is the case at all), and in fact Jackson had best show up with one of his best performances. This is the kind of game where he can step into becoming one of the elite receivers rather than just be viewed by many as a one trick novelty. Being the best receiver in a really bad group of receivers isn't saying as much as the guy beating the best on the game. This game will not be easy despite Tampa Bay's record. They are one of the better defenses the Eagles will face, they are desperate for a win, the game itself is a trap with the looming showdown with the Cryboys for an early lead in the division, and the Eagles most likely will be going without their starting QB. Perhaps Jackson's comments were made to ensure his team is focused on this game and the the Cryboys. Regardless of his reasons Jackson must produce and vault himself back into the talk of being one of the elite receivers in the league, because they are absolutely going to need him in order to beat Tampa.

  • DJax calling out Revis makes about as much sense as Shady putting Knowshon Moreno on blast. I have no idea why Shady would just diss the guy like that considering the ass whipping we too in Denver. Also I think it's a bad idea to give one of the top 2 corners in the league bulletin board material. DON'T POKE THE BEAR
  • Many people on this site see nothing wrong with this foolish behavior of our players talking too much. They can be like petulant children who are starved for attention. Neither comment was called for or necessary.
  • I agree with both of you. Just shut the hell up and play football. I've never been a fan of the brash talk and even the celebrations. I watch football for the big hits and the great plays not for the big egos. I appreciate the players who just quietly go about the business of football. Jerry Rice, Brian Westbrook, Steve Largent, Reggie White. Don't tell me how good you are...show me.
  • There are some exceptions. Look at Richard Sherman for instance. That guy is definitely cocky, but he's also the best shut down corner in the game right now. I don't mind him talking smack b/c he isn't writing checks his mouth can't cash. That guy can back it up.
  • I'd rather not hear any of the talk no matter who from but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want any such player like Sherman in Eagle green. I never liked TO the person (and liked his TD celebrations less) but of course I was hooked to WIP over the course of that mess to see if the Eagles had secured him by trade.
  • Both Jackson and McCoy's recent comments were pretty bad, but McCoy's was flat out stupid. Why go after a guy who's team just annihilated yours? Come to think of it Jackson is dumb for making even a little bulletin board material as well. Just shut up and play football. Win a championship; heck win a playoff game before you start talking all big.
  • Bulletin board material is overrated. I have no problem with it. eagles back theuir mouths in a 20-10 win over bucs. Who is the QB for the bucs? LMFAO
  • I remember several years ago the Eagles got beat by a hapless Raiders team and a pigeon. I remember Tom Tupa the former punter beating the Eagles. They shouldn't take this team lightly.
  • Not to mention they lost to JaFatBoy Russell the last time they played Oakland. Don't put anything past them.
  • I remember this team losing to the Bucs on like a 60 yard field goal. It was the McNabb puke game. The bottom line is this team can't afford to take anyone lightly. They aren't good enough to be this foolish.
  • It was a record tying field goal at the time. If that doesn't prove this team is cursed I don't what does. I just found myself saying, "A 62 yard field goal. VERRRRRRRYY FUNNY Football Gods."

It's almost like that time the Mets lost to the Phils on an unassisted triple play. That's just having the worst luck imaginable.
  • Despite everything that has happened this year, the Eagles can really make some moves if the step up in these next 4 games that are all winnable.
