THE 12: #3 TOUCHES AIN'T RUSHES.

GETTING your feature back 15-20 “touches” is not the same as 20-25 rushing attempts. Maybe if we replaced 'Fly Eagles Fly' with that mantra and 66,000 people shouted it, repeatedly, at once, it just MIGHT get heard.

First (yes, I’m going here again) as a former O-lineman, running the ball beats up the D-line. If you stick with it, it makes them tired; it slows down pass rushers; it discourages blitzes. Even if you aren’t doing it well. Over four quarters, getting launched into by large, powerful men takes the wind out of you.

Secondly, if the line is hot, and the yards are piling up, you can go all day! You’re actually somewhat pissed to see the game end. Nothing breaks a man like literally, physically being pushed and tossed around. In front of whomever he brought to the game. Like his woman or his children. When you look across and can see in his eyes that all he wants is for the beating to be over…Nothing like it. It’ll almost give you wood. (Trust me, it’s THAT good.)

The Eagles are letting teams off easy, by first limiting LeSean McCoy’s chances to score (on any play); and then by not punishing teams that start out in a pass rush as opposed to anchoring to limit the run.

I hate seeing all those fresh D-linemen in the 4th quarters of games, while our QB is covered in grass stains. It’s like watching someone shortchange Jesus. It goes against every page of an O-lineman’s bible.

Give our O-line a chance to tear a$$, and open up the passing game by forcing teams to load the box against their better judgment. The less sleep rival coaches get the easier they are to coach against.

Said it last year and I'll say it this year: Run the ball!

  • Don't expect the only coach you think is qualified to coach the Philadelphia Eagles to suddenly change his philosophy after doing the same thing since 99. You want change then you need to change the coach, because Reid is far to stubborn to change.
  • I don't expect he will, but that doesn't mean I can't speak the truth. Running the ball would mean that games were easier to put away then they've typically been during the Reid era.

He's not the only coach I think is qualified, he's the coach Jeffrey Lurie thinks will do the best job at it.

Eagle had 342 (Non-QB) rushing attempts last year, I'm just saying they need to up that number to about 370-400. They've done it under Reid before in 2002 (410). We went 12-4.

Not a CHANGE. Just an adjustment.
  • Reid believes passing the ball is the way to victory. I see no change coming in his philosophy on that. This guy could have AP (and in McCoy he's got a very good back of his own) and he still wont run the ball. That's the truth. Don't expect change.
  • with the way the NFL is setup now i dont think it is that big of a deal to throw as much as we do but i think its more of the timing of the runs. we will run the ball on 3rd n 10 or longer n given to the defense n punt it away. however on 3rd n 1 or shorter we will throw the ball n it is hit or miss then maybe a punt. we need a better OC who can manage the game better.
  • I completely agree. That's why I was hoping Marty got the Oakland job and maybe Childress could have squeezed a few more running plays in had he came back, but let's be real. Andy is the one who is creating the game plan and he's completely in step with Marty on the pass happy offense and the terrible game management. None of this will change with Andy as the HC.
  • yea even if numbers show we "run" the ball more with marty it doesnt show on the field n the timing of the runs r even worse, plus the runs dont count out QB runs which we all know vick does more than almost any QB ever.
  • I agree we need to utilize the run game better but McCoy was tied for 7th in the league with rushing attempts and was 4th in rushing yard. I'm not disagreeing with you that the run game tires out the opposing defense and while I feel that they SHOULD give Shady more attempts I think they also need to make better decisions with which rushing plays they pick and when they use them. But I've been hoping for this to happen for years back when Westbrook was in his prime, Andy may just be too stuck in his ways. You never know though, it seems like this year is going to be a big factor in if Andy is brought back maybe he surprises us all and breaks free from his old ways in not only play calling, but the draft, and clock management as well. One can wish.
  • I'd like to see them convert some of those passes to him into runs for him. I'd also like to see his back up see about 80 carries this season, primarily in the 4th quarters to close out games we lead in, or in the 3rd quarter of blowouts. I don't see the point of beating up your starters when the game is no longer in contest.
