The Eagles Are Ranked Third In NFL Network Power Rankings.

Maybe its because of the departure of Joe Banner. Maybe it's due to Reid solidify his power with the team. I could b due to those people ranking the teams ate some bad shellfish. Maybe its because people believe that beginning of last season for the Eagles was nothing more than a fluke. Whatever the reason people once again seem psyched about the Philadelphia Eagles as the are ranked even higher than the Super Bowl champs in this preseason power rankings. The truth is a lot has to go well if the Eagles are to live up to their lofty NFL Network expectations. They have a difficult schedule, the youngest group of running backs they have ever had, and no real backup to Mike Vick who most likely will see some time on the sidelines injured. Most surprising is how the Giants are ranked 6th on the list behind the Packers, Patriots, Eagles, 49ers, and Texans. 4 of the teams ahead of them the Giants beat and three of those victories were in the playoffs. Certainly the Giants will use this as some type of motivation as they always seem to need something more to keep them going. The Cowboys and Redskins are ranked 16th and 26th respectively. No doubt it will be a long season, but apparently some people believe the Eagles are starting out on the right track.

I hate seeing us in the news this early. I want to be talked about in January and February not June/July. Don't get me wrong, I want the NFL Network to be right on this as much as the next Eagles fan. However, this team has a lot and I mean A LOT to atone for. This is Andy Reid's last chance to get it right.
-
ESPN had them ranked 6th so that seems a little more realistic.
-
I see that John Clayton has them going 10-6. I also saw that ESPN's NFC East blogger Dan Graziano thinks that's too low. I actually agree with Clayton. This year's schedule is pretty tough and I think 10-6 sounds like a nice safe estimate.

"last chance". How many chances to you give the a-hole. Hes got more than 9 lives. He never leaves.
-
The ranking obviously means nothing. So many still unanswered questions that only the season ahead will answer. What Vick will show up and will he stay healthy?...how effective will the rookies be and will any of last years finds go through that sophmore slump (Henery, Watkins, Rolle)?...will ignoring the safety position come back to haunt them (Jarrett hasn't seemed to gain any confidence amongst the coaches which isn't a good sign)...will letting Samuel go hurt them or help them by letting Asomugha and Rodgers-Cromartie stay on the outside?...etc. As always Im excited to find out the answers to all the pre-season questions. Is it time for camp yet?
-
I pretty much agree with you here. There are still to many questionmarks to place them so high in my opinion. There is no denying the Eagles have a lot of talent (on paper)nor can one deny (on paper) they addressed their needs, but there are some serious fundamental problems that trouble me with this team.
-
They have frontline talent and zero depth.
-
I think the most surprising thing for me is unlike the Eagles the rest of the teams in the top 10 produced last year. How can a team that never made the playoffs be ranked higher than so many others, that include the SB champs and many other teams who beat the Eagles head to head?
-
I agree. The eagles are counting on sveveral quality coaching changes to whip this thing together. Im not sure how the CB got better by letting Samuels walk but apparently management thinks it has.
-
Of course we're being talked about early. As bad as the record was last year even when we were in a slump those games were competitive. THEN we hit our stride, and NOW we get a camp, and no contract issues to serve as a distraction.
If we're not bitten too hard by the injury bug, this division is a mortal lock. -
If you call "hitting our stride" wins over the Redskins (who already had their golf clubs packed), Dolphins (who were game but void of talent), Cowboys (who had nothing to play for), and the Jets (who were completely falling apart) go right ahead. The bottom line is the Eagle defeated one team with a winning record last season. It was the Giants. A team that pretty much considered the Eagles dead and overlooked them especially since Vine Young was starting. If "hitting our stride" means beating up on bad teams at the right time, then you are correct.
-
I agree with that reality
-
The fact that the Eagles continue to want to due it "Reids way" leaves me no choice but to believe this season will flame out somewhere before we reach a superbowl. 15 years of remaining competitive is enough evidence for me that some things never change. This ranking will help apply the "dream team " label for another season. If the Eagles organization and players have any guts they die trying to shed or prove the label true.
-
Your statement isn't actually a stretch by any means as ALL BUT TWO TEAMS SEASONS WILL END SOMETIME BEFORE THE SUPERBOWL. That might be the weakest argument against Reid I've ever read.
-
your ranked #1 here on yardbarker so whats the big deal????
-
The Giants and Coughlin will prove in this year that they can have big back to back seasons. Eli manning continues to grow as a QB. The Giants will be the team to beat. Eagles are overrated.
-
Someone needs to emerge big-time this year to wrest the crown of the division. Eagles are loaded with skill players, so the pieces are in place enough to have a 12-4 type season. Number 3 in these so-called power rankings means the big boys know how high octane the offense will be. Eagles need to make strong statement against Coughlin and crew. Point being, it's there for Eagles to take.
