WE DON'T NEED DE$EAN'S SPEED!!!

BEING Eagle fans (particularly if you don't follow any other team), you are intimately familiar with the Eagles failures, but only the high profile (JaMarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf, Tony Mandarich) type failures of other teams.

Being a Raider fan I thought I might I offer some perspective to my fellow Eagles fans.

As Eagle fans when you think of the greatest Eagle WR's you think who? Harold Carmichael? Mike Quick? Then the list falls off doesn't it. The next group of names has people like Calvin Williams and Fred Barnett as its HEADLINERS. It's no wonder the position instills so much panic in the fanbase here. We just aren't offered much in the way of dangerous players as Eagles fans. To Eagle fans DeSean Jackson seems like a once in a lifetime type player. Puh-lease!

Enter the Raiders.

We had a guy named James Jett. He wasn't just fast, he was World Class Speed fast. He was an Olympic Sprinter. He once beat Carl Lewis. He had the kind of speed that Eagles fans have NEVER seen in a green jersey. DeSean Jackson runs a 4.4 40. Jett clocked in at 4.27. Like Jackson, Jett was only 'meh' as WR.

"Rocket" Raghib Ismail ran a 4.16, but again, never really hit his stride in the NFL.

Darrius Heyward-Bey runs a 4.25, and may stand a chance yet of becoming a weapon, but like Jackson, he disappears for stretches.

Jerry Porter? His 4.34 speed didn't translate either.

It took adding an older Jerry Rice (ran a 4.7 in his combine) to Tim Brown (4.3) to maximize the Offense's potential and get to the Super Bowl. Having 2 guys who could run the full route tree and not just in straight lines, changed things for the franchise. (Having Rich Gannon also may have helped.)

There is just waaaaay too much emphasis put on "taking the top off of defenses". Here is a basic law of football: If the WR runs 15 yards upfield he will draw Safety help 8 out of 10 times. The only time I've ever seen this NOT be true was during the days of Thrash/Pinkston; the Buffalo game where the corners went one-on-one all day, and the announcers wouldn't shut up about it. Even Riley Cooper draws over the top help.

DeSean Jackson is not somehow unique. This team won 8 games this year, and not one of them was BECAUSE of him. With his lethargic play and sullen attitude, the case could easily be made that they won 8 IN SPITE of him. I can only imagine an Offense with TWO go to guys on the outside like Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers have.

We shall soon see what transpires.

  • We don't need Eazyeaglez's 200 id's on here either. 2012 and he's still not working.
  • last i checked bay was at 4.3 and chris johnson still clocked the fastest time in nfl at 4.24 followed by jerome mathis at 4.28. desean is at a 4.35 where i looked. then u have to add in how people move in pads then u can watch a game and see how he runs past people in pads. he opens the field up for the rest of the team. look how bad the offense is without him. desean fits perfectly into our system. vick isnt rodgers or brees he isnt good at throwing over the middle or short quick passes. he is a deep balll thrower so why get rid of the best deep threat since randy moss? go find me jerry rice in the nfl today n put him in an eagles uniform. there is no one on the same level plus the nfl today is different than the 90s or even the earlier 2000s. u need the home run threat. dwayne bowe or colston isnt gonna be the same n most likely not coming here. no FA is going to replace what he does for us on offense then add in the punt return ability n how he scares the hell out of every ST coach n cover team in the league, he does more for this team than u give credit for.
  • We don't need his speed. We need his play making ability. We need him focused on football and not on contracts. He's the best receiver on the team.
  • yea he is the best on the team and he does have his faults but look how bad we r without him. he is a game changer with the ball in his hands and strikes fear into the DC the DBs and the ST. maclin will take 10 steps back without him. i believe no other WR we can add this year can open the field up like he does for the rest of the team his impact is bigger than his numbers and anyone who watches the games will see that
  • I with you 100% The Eagles need to try and get him signed. When he's happy, he's balling. I with you on Maclin too. I think he takes a step back if there is no Jackson. Whn you think about it Maclin took a step back this season.
  • I know this to be true. And if they dont sign Jackson the fans will lose complete faith in the organization and the real downfall will begin.
  • I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT RAIDERS, BUT I KNOW A FRAGILE, PASS DROPPING, ONE TRICK PONY WHEN I SEE ONE. TEAMS TAKE HIM OUT OF GAMES JUST BY ROLLING COVERAGE HIS WAY. NUMBER ONES CAN STILL BEAT A DOUBLE TEAM!and by god, this boy is no number one. HE'S GOOD, BUT HE ISN'T ON PAR WITH LARRY FITZGERALD, CALVIN JOHNSON, MILES AUSTIN, DWAYNE BOWE, BRANDON MARSHALL, STEVE SMITH (the good one), MIKE WALLACE, MARQUES COLSTON, VINCENT JACKSON, BRANDON LLOYD, ANDRE JOHNSON, REGGIE WAYNE, OR WES WELKER. THESE GUYS SEE DOUBLE TEAMS EVERY WEEK AND STILL SHOW UP IN THE CRUNCH. DESEAN JACKSON DOESN'T HAVE IT IN HIM TO BE THAT PLAYER. HE'S HAD FOUR YEARS TO SHOW IT AND WE HAVE YET TO SEE HIM TAKE THIS TEAM ON HIS BACK. i fear the boy's shoulders may be too weak to handle a man's load. YOU CAN'T COACH MANHOOD SON!!!! AND YOU CAN ONLY COACH A MAN.
  • u lost ur arguement when u said miles austin
  • He did try to sneak that stiff in there didn't he?
  • seriously how can someone mention brandon lloyd? i remember he was complaining about not getting the pro bowl vote and not getting the recognition of other top tier WR. i was like since when are u motherf*cker
  • oops ment this under randall
  • Not to mention Brandon Lloyd? Seriously? I would say the previous two years he did put alot on his back. There were specific games (multiple times against Giants, Cards in NFC champ, Bears a couple years ago, Cowboys - not the playoff or playin game) just off top of my head where his plays were the difference for us.
  • Dude had one season. He stinks!
  • I wonder how many people realize that he's been in the nfl since 2003.....Brandon Lloyd has no idea he has been in the nfl longer than 2 seasons.....remember when he was with the Skins? Todd Pinkston thought Brandon Lloyd sucked.
  • LMAO Yup. People are witch hunting to get rid of Jackson. The Eagles divisional opponets couldn't be more pleased.
  • That's original Eazyeagle. You're really advancing in life. The only people more gullible than you are the ones that reply to your fake troll id's . Get a job tomorrow. I'm sick of payin for you to sit home on a computer for 15 hours a day.

  • Perspective! Nice to see it!

I actually dig this list (although Mile Austin was a stretch) and it proves my point. Those guys command top dollar because their teams can rely on them to produce 13 out of 16 games a year.

De$ean has NEVER had that season, and it just raises the question of why JEFF LURIE would pay a guy 10-11 mill, to be invisible for 9 out of 16 games.

Lurie did say "if the right terms develop, he would be welcomed back."

    THE RIGHT TERMS.

I think lost on everyone here is the impact the new CBA has had and will have on this situation. Everything from killing Jackson's holdout, to his free agent window, to why he won't be franchised.

I think some WR starved city (Cleveland, Jacksonville, Washington, Minnesota) will back a truckful of money up to Jackson's home and begin to beg him through a megaphone. Not because he's worth it, but because it's the Eddie Murphy/RITZ cracker scenario:

  • Brandon Lloyd IS a legit mention. He DOES see doubles every week, and he DOES produce every week. Even on a bad Rams team.

In fact I would say that Brandon Lloyd disproves the theory that De$ean is why Maclin gets open.

Lloyd sees doubles but while he produced both in Denver and St. Louis, what other WR on those team was CONSISTENTLY bringing up the slack? Answer: There wasn't one. So Lloyd's numbers are what they are WITHOUT help or a release valve. Jackson can claim no such thing.
  • Brandon Lloyd stinks bflip. When he was in Sanfran they couldn't wait to ship him out. The same in D.C. The guy HAD ONE GOOD SEASON!!!! He sucks.
  • Actually Lloyd had a better 2010 AND 2011 than Jackson.

This year he did it while transitioning to a new team, with fewer weapons, playing for three QB's in one season, and all at the age of 30. And oh yeah, facing a double EVERY week, he was STILL the best WR on the team.
  • yea i didnt see to many rams games and i doubt u did to but nobody is gonna double slow ass brandon lloyd we would leave hanson on him one on one and he would be a nonfactor that game. he sucks its simple. trying to compare the two is stupid. a possession reciever, with a no arm QB vs a home run threat, with a great deep ball QB. lloyd had one good year in 9 seasons he sucks
  • Brandon Llloyd not a Jackson. The best WR on a crap team is Brandon Marshall. He is unstopppable.
  • miles austin give me a break
  • that guy isnt is this conversation. Hes a stiff
  • remember desean knows the system so anyone you bring in will have an adjustment period
  • You had a Steelers banner on your post three hours ago Pissondallas. I know you're not over tired from working. Lol
  • Why do you guys continue to put up with the troll is beyond me. You all know he's made dozens of IDs let you keep letting him post and disrupting the flow of your great threads. Posts about the Eagles become posts about his idiotic theories and and flooded with his fake IDs. By not blocking this clown you only degrade the quality of your own work.
  • I think they have lost all respect for you Sleazy just like Brinkster did. Lol.
  • Hey Romo. Pleaz stick to football. You have good football knowledge.
