USC's Pete Carroll visits South L.A. ghettos, trying to make a difference

Great article by the L.A. Times about USC head coach Pete Carroll. Carroll apparently rolls with an ex-gang member in South L.A. neighborhoods, trying to change the environment. And to make sure it's even more dangerous, he goes at midnight. I could make a lot of jokes about this, but after reading this article, I really respect the man. Five years ago, Carroll founded A Better L.A., dedicated to ending inner-city violence. It didn't gain much traction, and he was told the only way to really learn about the ghettos is to experience them for himself. So he did. "I don't go to judge . . . just to show that someone cares," Carroll said. "Just go to give people here a little hope. . . . Get folks to step back and think. Hopefully, get them to change."
