Nate Clements has not lived up to the hype of his hefty contrac

Yesterday I grabbed a copy of the newspaper and caught onto an article written by local Bay Area writer Monte Poole. In his piece, Poole talks about cornerback Nate Clements.

Clements has struggled to live up to the hype of his then eight-year, $80 million contract (now adjusted to $64 million over seven years). He has seen many struggles in previous games, most notably his performance against Falcons wide receiver Roddy White. Allowing 210 yards and two touchdowns is not what Clements should be forfetiing every game.

I don't think too much about Clements as he still is a decent cornerback. But over the past few seasons, I really have not seen any of his skills translating into the elite shutdown corner that we expect. I've seen a lot of his play on the field chasing down receivers, trying to knock the ball out rather than tackling.

Clements is a talented cornerback, but for all the hype he has received, he sure has yet to give us what we've expected.
