Zook and Spurrier both vote Gators #2
The new motto for the Florida Gators has to be "Once a Gator always a Gator" because they sure got some help from former coaches to make it into the title game. Coaches Ron Zook and Steve Spurrier both voted the 2006 Gators into the National Championship game versus #1 Ohio State in the latest coaches poll. Zook's explanation was that Florida played an extra game, a conference championship that Michigan did not have to play. I think the bigger thing here was the fact that current coach Urban Meyer openly lobbied for his team to take over the #2 spot. Michigan coach Lloyd Carr played it coy as usual and allowed the process to work itself out yet came up on the outside looking in. Personally, I feel as though the 2nd best team is Michigan, but think the BCS got it right by letting Florida go. In all fairness, Michigan got their chance. It is just a testament to the fact that a playoff must be created because before this, we all thought USC was the second best team until they lost to unranked and lowly UCLA. It MUST be decided on the field!
