Oklahoma City Team Name and Colors?

With the news of the Seattle Supersonics moving to Oklahoma City, but leaving the colors and name behind, it got me thinking: What should be the name and colors of the new OKC team? I personally like the name Outlaws, which has been discussed already and good colors in my opinion would be Maroon, Vegas Gold, Black, and White. What do you guys in the Yard think?

I think that is good, I can see the OKC Bandits, or something like that. Those colors should be good though.

Oklahoma City Twisters sounds appropiate. What the heck is a Thunder? Lol Can't touch it.

Team colors- orange and crimson and white to represent Sooners and Cowboys fans with a tornado logo on the jersey. Or could go purple and blue and white for storm clouds.

Although with their current roster, the OKC Garbage might be more appropriate (sorry KD, Westbrook, J-Green)

I'd go with a maroon and gold color scheme.

I don't think Twisters is appropriate either. I like the Outlaws... how about the Marshalls? I think Outlaws probably sounds better. They would just need to sign Travis Outlaw and they'd be set.

It would be wise to tie in OU and OSU with Maroon & Orange somehow. Either include both or go in a completely different direction. Oddly enough, the state colors are green and white.

  Are you saying it's not appropiate because the city had a really bad tornado? Is it not politically correct in the city to bring up that word? There are hockey teams named the HurrIcanes, Sharks, Avalanche, and Lightning. Most people aren't that sensitive when it comes sports names. The Bullets actually changed their name to Widards because of the impression or something regarding the community. It's their right but I don't think it changes anything. DC is still near the tops in murders.
  
  As a Texan I don't see Oklahoman's being that way. Having a team named the Outlaws is really better? Hmmm. No right or wrong I guess. Just opinion.

    "Twisters" isn't bad, but with as much devastation tornadoes cause in that area, I'd be surprised if they'd name the team that. You're right about the Hurricanes and the Avalanche, but I don't think the Sharks and Lightning compare.
    
    I think Outlaws is better. It's more antiquated and still kind of cool. Plus it sounds better with Oklahoma City.

It's really funny how offended the Seattle people get when the team was given away. Pointing fingers everywhere but themselves. Most people interviewed could have cared less. The team ranked 28th in attendance, yeah you really cared about the Sonics. Your to busy guzzling Schultz's coffee to care about the Sonics. The negative outlook everyone has on Oklahoma is very misleading. Oklahoma is booming right now which can't be said for the rest of the states. We deserve our chance to support a team and according to the latest; i've heard over 11,000 phone calls poured in asking about season tickets the first day alone! Garm26, yes we are in the Bible Belt and I couldn't be prouder to be an on fire holy roller! Maybe Seattle should have prayed a little more and you might still have a team.....

They had better attendance than Seattle did last year and thats after rebuilding the city...This team will finally start seeing potential now that it has the fanbase & an ownership group that knows what there doing.

  ah yes, attacking cities based on economic indices, very classy and helfpul to the discussion. if you'd like to continue down that path (i dont') feel free to compile the most recent rankings from the census bureau, forbes, fortune, and businessweek and compare seattle and okc across education, per capita income, "liveability" etc.
  
  it might be more helpful than cutting and pasting from other forums but i dont think you'll find the results helpful to your cause.

      i dont doubt OKC can support a team and sell out (initial interest has been great i hear). the honeymoon will inevitably end and, regardless, the media market is smaller and you can't change that overnight. the resulting cable tv, merchandising, and other related revenue for the league overall have to be smaller as a result of this move. the NBA may make up for it later on bc they now have a precedent by which to hold other cities hostage.

    I wouldn't worry about trying to make sense of it, although the distortion is bc washington (like several states) has a state sales tax but no state income tax. As such, total state tax burden as a percentage of income is higher for people who spend a greater portion of their income (vs savings). 17% is impossible though.

      Actually 17% makes perfect sense...if the state taxes sales 25 to 30 cents on the dollar. If they tax the normal 5 to 8 cents per dollar than no, no it doesn't make any sense at all.

The name shoud be the okc Natives as our licenses plates read.. "discover native america": the best thing though the symbol on the jersey which reflects our state flag...yep...u guessed it the peace pipe! a true symbol of freedom for all! haha of course in these times a more politically correct symbol and one keeping up with the times would be a fancy water bong! haha hey maybe we could call them The Peace..yeah the OKC Peace lol another reference to our flag.

tcbailey24, you sure know how to get someone's attention with this article. Bennett's Bandits, could be a cheering section. Oilers just sounds too coincidental, with Clay being rich solely because of that. Frankly I don't care, OKC doesn't deserve a team. Pound your chest Sooner fans, you lost to Boise State.

  That was a great game regardless if we lost. Boise was a good team that year. They would have mopped the floor with any of Washingtons teams. They were the only undefeated team that year and should have been ranked higher. 9-13-08 OU vs Washington, should be a good game if we can keep the Seattle fans in line. Then again they won't show up.

Oklahoma Bison, or Buffaloes, or Stampede
Even Thunder will be ok as long as they use a rolling stampede of bison as logo and not a retarded lightning bolt
Oklahoma Oilers is ok but it's been done before and Tulsa has a hockey team named oilers
Drillers would be ok, but Tulsa has a minor league farm team for the Rockies called the Drillers
I REALLY like the "Barons", regardless of how clay made his money - (that's where all the money in this state came from) but I cringe when it rolls off my tongue.
Just do me a favor and keep purple out of the colors - also keep crimson and cream and orange and black out of them. This state runs on college football and the two should not mix.

thunder is apparently a finalist, not the official team name, i think outlaws was a finalist too, so i would def. go with that, i would also suggest the okc technicolor dreamcoats... the most colorful team in the league

Here you go, keep Okc thunder, but have the mascot be a cat. So istead of thunderstruck as the theme song you can use Thundercats theme. Plus, i think its bada** they stole their team. I mean isn't that how OK was founded. Manifest Destiny, applied to a pro ball team
