Baron Davis signs with Clippers

Wow! this is a HUGE loss for the Warriors and Dubs fans. Great for Clippers as they would most likely re-sign Elton Brand to go along with Boom Dizzle, Chris Kaman, and Al Thornton. Boom, I wish you well. What's next for the Warriors?

Well with $19 mil under the cap, assuming we only resign Monta and Andris, we have a lot of leeway to go after the big boys.

Good luck in la la land, Boom. (You fu*kin' jerk) But, best wishes. Still my favorite player, (you as*hole). =)

It does suck. Baron was the Warriors (although I did call this one on a thread a while back). My question is: Do you think the draft pick had anything to do with his opting out? Do you think he might have been looking for some help - either with a strong post-up game inside (to open him up), or another point to spell some minutes?
  • BookerT
he took less money, wa wa wee wa...play in his hometown, play at the staples center celebs in attendance like denzel n jessica alba wat not. Good for Baron but as a fan of Baron this really sucks. GS horrible management caused this fiasco.

But IDK maybe this Eric Gordon and Baron Davis combo will be awesome, Out of the closet comes out those LA CLippers FAns, after 20 years in hibernation ...Only time will tell what happens in LA , but one thing for sure LA Lakers vs Clippers is going to be fun to watch for a change.

Mullin and Nelson should be fired. Why didn't they offer 13M a year like the Clips did?!

    • HoopsHoncho
Cuz they needed to offer him like $24mil to sign and trade him or he could have optioned his $17m if he just wanted to stay outright. Neither were good bets, clearly because nobody would have taken him @24mil cuz that's more than Kobe makes, for god's sake... and he didn't think they were worthy enough to sign on for the $17m. Guess Nelly burned his last bridge with the Boom.

    • Clippers will always be the Clippers. No matter how much talent they have, they will always be horrible. They couldn't win anything with Cassell, Mobley, Maggette, Brand and Kaman, so why will a starting five of Baron, Gordon, Thornton, Brand and Kaman be any different.

    B. Davis (we'll see how this Bayless kid plays out)
    B. Roy

I would have given you credit for a lineup that was a joke like last years Miami Heat lineup but you couldnt do that either. I give you credit for trying with optimism. so theres a plus 1..

      Last Years Miami Starting Lineup

      Chris Quinn
      Daequann Cook
      Ricky Davis
      Stephan Lasme
      Mark Blount

OFlArity wins the Optimist Award of Free Agency so Far... His Baron Davis to Clippers insites were really good.
  • oflarity
As a Clipper fan, this is great news. It's not often - in fact, extremely rare - that the Clippers get something right. I really like this lineup: Davis-Gordon/Mobley-Thornton-Brand-Kaman. There's not much on the bench, though, besides Tim Thomas and Nick Fazekas, who played decent in limited minutes. This isn't a championship squad, but should be enough to challenge for the playoffs. We Clippers fans have to take these things in baby steps.

Tickets to NKOTB is reason enough to get married... right? No? Nevermind.
  • signing BD to a long term contract is crazy given his history. Doing that would hamstring the warriors ability to hand onto their talent and get any good free agents. Don't forget, the dubs did not make the playoffs even with a healthy BD for the year. I applaud Mullie for not caving into the pressure. The future is with the youngsters, Monte and Biedrins, and hopefully Wright and Randolph. Unfortunately, there aren't many quality PGs available as free agents, which is the big problem, and I don't think Monte is ready to play point yet.

Baron Davis must feel disrespected by GS to have such a change of heart... Well i would be too....not even restricting him as a free agent, they might as well tried to draft a PG in this years draft. Now they they get nothing for Baron talents, not even a sign and trade its Agent Zero all over again ironic the warriors are trying to pick him up right?. But as a life long warrior fan for id like to thank B.D and other former warrior J-Rich for the great playoff run they gave the Warriors. As a Baron Davis fan im happy hes in L.A his hometown making movies now haha and such. So sad to see him go though

First off as a die ahrd Warrior fan this post has made me sick to me stomach. The Warriors had a squad that can actually be a playoff contenion team in the west and now its just all f*cked up. Being a die hard warrior fan Im used to it though. We coudln't keep webber, arenas, jamison, j-rich, and now davis. If the Warriors dont resign Monta and Beans I dont know if I can watch another painful season.
To all the Die Hard Warriors fans whats the lineup goin to look like now?
    Monta
    Marco
    Stephen
    Wright

Monta's ready to be a true, dominant #1...

Don't doubt his skill-set... he's got all the absolute tools to be a GREAT #1 guard... just put some pieces around him.

Brandan Wright is going to be a beast... and we still got Stack Jack.

I'm kinda glad Baron is gone.. that gives the Dubs an extra $17 mill to work with this offseason. See how they attempted to make a move for Gilbert Arenas.... now they need to focus their attention on Elton Brand and get some payback on the Clips... offer him $20 mill a season...

I feel like baron got dissed which a player of his caliber should not be treated that way but i still wouldn't pay him max money, but i would have cashed him out 65 mill for 5 years thats reasonable. To the warriors credit they let Jrich go and Jamison go for cap reasons but Boom Dizzle gone... i dont know what Mullin is thinking

It's an odd thing, you know, because I'm a Clippers fan and have been enthralled by the Warriors for the last couple years I've lived up here.
For the Clip Show, this is a bold move that puts them in the middle of the pack, and gives them a legit shot at making the Finals. Obviously, health's a factor, but imagine the Bdiddy from last year's playoffs with a 20 10 guy on the block, and a squad full of solid players. The Clippers need to shore up their bench, and hope the injury bug is done biting them.
Warriors fans, back off the ledge. I know it hurts. Davis was amazing to watch on the court, and his off the court work should be publicized more. But, the Warriors as a team had gone as far as Nellie ball and Davis could take them. There's a reason the run and gun style has never won a ring. Sure, it's fun to watch, but this does give the team a chance to rebuild. Monta will be an amazing player, and if you can put a big playmaker next to him, the backcourt should be set. Biendris is a good option at center, and this creates a salary cap space to sign a low post scorer and rebounder. Maybe one's not available or worth it this off season, but it's always good to have flexibility.
May as well say it: Trade Captain Jack and Al Harrington for young talent and draft picks. OR Jackson could go to Houston for Bobby Jackson, a player who could teach Monta a bit, and his contract's shorter than Jax.
It'll still be an exciting team to watch, although it probably won't win as much. But it also has a chance to build correctly. I know, that thought of another rebuild isn't fun, but a few pieces are in place already. All it takes is some shrewd management moves. Wait, is Mully still running the ship? Never mind Warriors fans, go ahead and jump.

you think the clippers have a legit chance to make the finals? They have Cuttino Mobley (whose older than a rock), maybe Elton Brand (injured), maybe Baron Davis (good for maybe 60 games), shaun livingston (who knee is pretty much completley reconstructed and instable), and oh ya i forgot, your superstar...Al Throton (aka the black hole)...please bro, if the clippers make the NBA finals, hell if they even make the 5 or 6 seed out in the west, i'll change my name to Dan Dickaeu.

    Biedrens

lol, i won't be needing it man, i'm confident you can't replicate what we did up here in the bay area just because you have baron. you don't have the tools to operate the run and gun style of play, the exciting new way to play the game...mostly you don't have the genius, the brain, don nelson...but hey best of luck, the 6th seed would be sweet, you know playing the spurs, suns, or lakers...solid odds.

A lot of people are upset with Baron Davis for taking a much better deal thus putting himself and his family in an even better situation. How the hell can you be mad at that?!? If anything, be mad at your favorite franchise for not taking care of him the same way the Clippers did. They obviously don't love Baron the way the fans do. The GSW sold out their own fans, not Baron.

  • You lied to us Baron. If you wanted to stay in the Bay, you would have taken less money to stay. You just made 16 million last year. That's more than Gilbert, Dwayne, Steve, Tony and Chris and Deron and they all went to the All-Star game. I love you as a player, and I bought season tickets the day you were traded to the Warriors. Baron disrespected everything the Warriors have done for him. They brought him in and built a team around him. Bringing in Stephen Jackson and Al Harrington WITH Baron was key to their success two years ago. Let's be serious, Baron. You've had one complete season without an injury. Playing in a tough Western Conference, you're going to need a solid team and a good coach in Nellie to help you win. AND your health.

I am VERY excited that Baron Davis signed with the Clippers. I see that Elton Brand opted out of his contract with the Clippers to make room for Baron to sign (smart move actually assuming Brand re-signs today). With the addition of Davis, the Clippers become a legitimate team who could possibly become this years spoilers in the NBA playoffs. If Brand re-signs today. I am definitely looking at grabbing some season tickets. Yes, they are EXPENSIVE (ranging from 33 THOUSAND on down) but given that L.A. is a basketball town (and the Clips play the Lakers a few times) it could be a good investment. :)

Warriors management is to blame.... They forget the energy, the excitement and the resurgance that Baron brought to this Franchise. He made the warriors relevant again. All that he wanted was a long term contract, he took less money over in L.A. It's not about greed, it's about securing his future... The Warriors did not want to commit to that, but they had the audacity to offer Gilbert Arenas 5yrs @ $101 mil.... Talk about madness!!!!! Are you serious?? Arenas could thrive in Nellies system, but I guarantee you that everyone elses game will suffer.... Baron made his entire team better, and that's the definition of a true point guard. Sure Baron has had injury problems in the past, but he played all 82 games this season... can we say that for Arenas?? Arenas sat out the majority of the season and he has also had 2 major knee surgeries. The L.A. Clippers are getting a excellent guy and player, I wish you well Baron!!!!

I agree. I think what is Golden State's loss is our gain! I think this is a good move for the franchise and the city of LA. I'm sure he took much into consideration before he made his decision. I know the Bay area is sad by his departure but they still have some talented players (ie. Jackson, Ellis, Biendrins) . And even though Baron has been plagued with injuries duing his carreer he has still managed to bounce back and give his very best. I think he will do just fine in LA!
    • Right you are, Murdoc. And when management forgets the energy and excitement, that means they are forgetting about us, the fans. I think Nelson's ego is to blame and it's the second time that has broken my heart as a Warriors fan, the first was when he traded Mitch Richmond years ago, breaking up an exciting team that played its heart out every single night. Mitch was the backbone of that team, just as BD was the backbone of this team. Every time i look at my screen saver (Baron dunks) i feel sick. How could Mullin do this????

How can BD want to play for Nelson after that? One of them had to go, i just wish it had been Nelson, not Baron. Good luck in L.A., Baron, i will miss you terribly. Well maybe "our best player" should realize the importance of that Phoenix game for our playoff hopes, and maybe "our best player" shouldn't come hungover to the most important game of the year. Plus, the guys on the court were handling business, and kept the game close, they didn't need Baron disrupting their chemistry on the court.

Nelson said "Baron wasn't ready physically or mentally for the game"...the Don's classy, he doesn't attack his players, hes not going to come out and say Baron was drunk blah blah. Hes a smart coach, and steered away from the question like a gentleman, not throwing Baron under the bus if you will.

Also, my friend, you think Baron left because he got benched for 20 minutes? I'll tell you exactly why he left. A) Mr. Davis has an overestimated sense of self-value, hes a great player, but hes not worth a 5 year $15 mil contract, he has too much history, and hasn't played a full season (besides last year go figure) since 2000-2001. He's a liability. B) He assured Nelly that he would be back for another season at least. C) He was on KNBR 680 (local radio station) this past Friday, yes as in 5 days ago claiming, and I quote, "I'm gonna come back and finish out my contract, I owe it to the fans, I think the loyal thing to do is to come back and finish out and then see what happens next year". Hmmmm, classy Bdiddy. D) Hes a Hollywood boy, he cares more about his movies, celeb fans, and red carpet events then winning a championship. I wish he had 1/2 the heart KG has, I understand this is a business, and these guys need to make a living...but to reject $17.8 million is either stupid, greedy, or both.

Listen guys, its really not the fact he left, hes free to do as he pleases, but the way in which you left Baron is shameful. It honestly is, you led on our fans, your teammates, your coaches, and everyone else affiliated with the team. We drafted our two picks based on YOU, we probably didn't exercise that $10 mil exception because of YOU, we could have pursued another free agent PG like TJ Ford, but we didn't because we had YOU.

Your a baller man, and no one can question your skill, and yes you were one of many contributers, if not the main one, in rebuilding this franchise, but you left us in the dirt. You stabbed us in the back, and you ran like a coward. Good luck with your production business, and oh ya don't forget about that game you play, you know the one with the orange ball, the one most players die for and play with unrelenting passion...man, what would Jordan say, I wonder...

Man, if you really believe everything you wrote in paragraph 3 of your dissertation, then tell me why the hell you're so upset???
    • Whose word is it you are believing that BD came to the Phoenix game with a hangover? Surely any sports fan is hip to the fact that the sportswriters and other media toe the management party line when it comes to players?!? It's absurd to think someone of Baron Davis's caliber would do that. I don't believe it. It was Nelson trying to cover himself after the fact.
Also, i disagree that Nelson is "classy, doesn't attack his players." He attacked (through the media) Matt Barnes all season long. That's just one of many examples. He is a great coach and motivator for one or two seasons with anhy team, then the honeymoon's over and he inevitably ends up with several players so angry with him or so disillusioned that they no longer want to play for him. He constantly disses players in the media, even though he does so in a cagy, backhanded way. Read the Sporting Green more carefully, brother!
The W's management backed him instead of backing BD. They've made their bed, now let's watch them (and Nellie thru the media) blame BD for not coming back and therefore ruining the team. Don't go for the okey-doke. Nellie's a master at media manipulation, it would behoove Warriors fans to remember that. And what he did by trading Mitch Richmond years ago proves that he just doesn't get how important team chemistry is. What just happened with BD proves he forgot the lesson he learned.
BTW, how do you think this is going to affect the rest of the team's confidence that Nellie has their back?
    • One other thing, remember Nelson's boneheaded signing of Chris Webber this season? That was a terrible move that told the other guys he didn't have confidence in them and would rather sign a 35 year old, retired "big man" with bad knees than develop some of the younger less experienced guys. Was Nelson still trying to prove he was right to trade Richmond for the rights to sign Webber years ago?? If so, doesn't that indicate an ego problem? (Remember: back in the day, Webber had been drafted by Sac and refused to sign with them, because he thought the Kings were below his caliber, he who had never played a day in the NBA. So Nelson chose a guy with that kind of character to replace Mitch "The Rock" Richmond! And ps, Weber is not and never was a true "big man" -- Nelson's supposed excuse. )
That mid-season Weber thing was like an elephant in the room the rest of the year, even though Weber himself had the sense to call it quits. It undermined confidence of the team in Nelson; in his ability to judge talent; in his ability to bring along young players; in his faith in the guys he had.
  • 510thebay
it wont help the loss of baron but if monta is the true 1, we should sign brent barry on a 1 year deal, hes lights out from 3 and hes a experienced team guy, i think he could help our young guys and give us a little spark. basically there is no pg's to sign right now so im just thinking of possibilities. I dont care at this point bro, because i've seen his true colors, he more concerned with being in LA then with winning a championship, I want a guy on our team who can lead us, and wants to lead us, to the playoffs and hopefullya championship.

And yeah Dewey, I agree it is Baron's life, but remember bro he is nothing without his fan base, and when you treat your fans and your organization the way he did to both the Hornets and the Warriors, then you stir bad blood. I love Diddy, I didn't watch the all-star game because I was so upset he didn't make it...I argued with numerous fans and haters, thats why it just is a low blow to go out in such an unclassy manner.

  • Baron ultimately has to look out for number one, any one of you would have done the same. Yes he left the near 18 mil on the table but instead he is going to get 12.5 mil next year, and the next year, and the next year, and the next year. How would you feel if you didn't even get an offer of a longer contract before your team went out and offered a 100 mil to Agent Zero after getting he knees operated on twice, not to mention you just had a carreer year and played in all 82 games when durability has been your knock in the past.

If you Warrior fans are looking for someone to blame you need to be focused on Mullin and Nellie, they made BD's choice form him. Good for you Baron! I would have loved to see you in a Blazers jersey; we need a starting pg, but I wish you the best in LA.

      this aint no recruiting forum.
  • dayymn.. for other Warrior fans its like the end of the world.. seriously though it don't matter if the Warriors aren't good for like 2 years..look at all the rook's they have..they will bounce back ..for all you guys hating on Mullen and Nellie shut the f*uk up.. they offered him contracts too.. ones that had conditions instead of guaranteed money.. and if he opted out as soon as he could and verbally agreed to a contract 24hrs later, he was never going to come back anyways

and another thing: people act like Baron was the only one that got the Warriors to the playoffs.. Nellie and Mullen were right there with him, making all those trades.. Shoot Nellie's is what got them to the playoffs and the 48 wins last year..or maybe you guys don't remember what it was like before he saved the Warriors

the people that are ok with them struggling for the next couple years are people that didn't pay 4g's of thier hard earned money for season tix.
