Red Sox lose out on Wood sweetpstakes, might turn to Japan or Percival

BOSTON, MASS. -- The Cubs re-signed veteran pitcher Kerry Wood to a one-year contract worth an estimated US$4.2 million with a possibility of adding another US$3.45 M in incentives. The 30-year old's career has been on hold during the past several years as he has not had a healthy season over his last 4, during which he started a combined 36 games and appeared in 69. This move means the Red Sox have to pursue their quest for an inning-eater and another stabilizing presence to the bullpen, to complement Hideki Okajima. Troy Percival might be an option, if he chooses not to close, which would be odd given the fact that he has multiple teams after him that are looking for a man in the 9th inning, like the Cordero-less Brewers. Japan might also be an option, who offers numerous experienced relievers, like Yasuhiko Yabuta. Who knows, Theo Epstein might even deal Coco Crisp for a position player and a high-end reliever. Only time will tell, have faith Red Sox Nation!
