A Running Blog of the Second Week of College Football

Week 2 is underway. This blog is brought to you by a Starbucks venti , red-eye, iced coffee. Updated frequently, I'll provide the high-and low-lights of the day. The newest posts start at the top, which you probably realize if you are familiar with things like clocks ? or sun dials. 3:44 p.m. -- Will Althoff sends along this kind, and somewhat chavenistic, instant message ... "Penn State pounds the Beavers and scores six." Despite what some of you are thinking out there, he is not single. 3:35 p.m. -- Penn State opens their game against Oregon State with a kickoff out of bounds. Will, as mentioned below, graduated from PSU. His comment, "That's how you start. You a-holes." Oregon State can't do anything with the ball and punts it away. "We got this game in the bag," Will says. He's manic. If Penn State had Boo Jackson on their team a definite National Championship. 3:25 p.m. -- Before I bring you some finals, ESPN just did a nice little fluff piece on the legendary Bobby Bowden. Here's an excerpt from Bowden, explaining how he starts every day. "I get up at 4 o'clock every morning, go down and put the coffee on. I try to start every morning by reading the Bible. The reason you are reading the bible, not because it will make you lucky ... or it's magic ..." and so on. Rumor has it he will release his newest children's Christian series, "Bobby and his Bible." Either way, Bowden is always good for television, a walking sound byte. 3:11 p.m. -- That last post is a little disjointed. The coffee is wearing off. Let me clarify: Wisconsin did score again, and again and again. They beat Marshall 51-14. Michigan beat Miami (OH) 16-6. Ohio State beat Ohio, 26-14. USC will most liekly destroy the Buckeyes. As Miami fans know, those officials sure love Ohio State, so we'll see how big of a blowout it is. More finals shortly. 3:00 p.m. -- Wisconsin about to score again. Michigan gives Rich Rodriguez his first win, 16-6, over Miami (OH). At least we know that USC is going to dismantle Ohio State. Beanie or no Beanie. 2:48 p.m. -- Boo Jackson throws a pick, and Ohio State drives. The Buckeyes stall on the Bobcats 40 and punt. Boo Jackson back in the game. they go three and out, punt and Ohio State takes it to the house. That's your ballgame. The Buckeyes have score 20 unanswered points. 2:08 p.m. -- Nevermind, a muffed punt gives the Buckeyes the ball inside their 20. this sets up another one-yard TD runand gives the Buckeyes a five point lead. 2:07 p.m. -- Ohio State caps off a 13 play, 73-yard drive with a one-yard TD run by Daniel Herron. The extra point, No-Good. Buckeye K Ryan Pretorius has now missed two kicks. Wisonsin has scored 31 unanswered points against Marshall and leads 31-14. Here comes Boo. 1:57 p.m. -- Ohio State, facing 3rd-and-2 on their own 14-yard line, snaps the ball over QB Todd Boeckman head, into the endzone, touchdown the Ohio Boo Jacksons. Point-after good, and Boo Jacksons lead 14-6. Interesting note: the Buckeyes haven't lost to an in-state competitor since 1921. 1:50 p.m. -- I just realized why I like Boo Jackson and the Ohio Bobcats. They play real football like I play EAs "NCAA Football." Scramble with a fast QB and throw up a prayer. Gillete Fusion put together an all-star cast of global sports icons: Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, and Thierry Henry; and now WWE's John Cena. 1:32 p.m. -- It's halftime for the 12 Noon games. No. 11 Wisconsin beating Marshall 17-14. No. 24 Illinois whooping Eastern Illinois 26-7, with Juice Williams legging out two TD runs with 99 rushing yards. He's thrown one TD pass and two INTs. No. 9 Auburn blanking Southern Miss. 14-0. The ACC: Ga. Tech losing to BC 7-9. Purdue also blanking Northern Colorado 14-0. But folks, this is the Boo Jackson bandwagon and the third quarter just started. 1:22 p.m. -- Ohio State misses a field goal. Boo Jackson takes a knee, and Ohio leads No. 3 Ohio State, 7-6. For one half Ohio was relevant.
