Who got the better deal?
2 weeks ago ago Kevin Garnett was traded for Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair, and Theo Ratliff. This article is examining who got the better deal, and who will be better in 3 years. Remember this all goes according to if the Celtics or Timberwolves deal any of these players and resign them in the next 4 years. In 3 years Kevin Garnett will be 34, his ankles won't support his game anymore and either his numbers are going to go down 5 points per game or he will be out half the season (like Shaq). In 3 years Ray Allen will be 35, he to will be out for half the season because we know he has injury problems, yet he will still be a somewhat valuable shooter. In 3 years Paul Pierce will be 32, still scoring well yet he won't be scoring as many points and will have to settle for outside shots because his speed will be gone. In 3 years the Celtics will have no clear point guard unless they pick someone up off the free agency because they will have spent so much money on the Garnett/Allen signings that they won't be able to get a legitimate point guard that would be able to compliment Garnett's game when he is old. You see it for people like Shaq, Jason Williams isn't a good enough point guard to feed him down low and get him 25 points per game. Instead Shaq has to start from off the dribble, and half the time he gets fouled. In 3 years the Celtics will have died down from what they are today, and they'll possibly make the playoffs yet they'll be no where near a championship. In 3 years the Timberwolves will have a 24 year old Corey Brewer, who (if he put on some muscle) could be like a Paul Pierce in his prime, getting dunks and hitting 3's, that's if he puts on muscle. In 3 years the Timberwolves will have a progressed Randy Foye who will serve as a respectable point guard. In 3 years the Timberwolves will have a high flying Gerald Green who could easily add on the shooting part of his game. In 3 years Al Jefferson will be 25 years old, getting a possible 20/10 and be one of the top 5 centers in the league. In 3 years the Timberwolves will have a 30 year old Ricky Davis who could be scoring around 20 points per game and serve as an interesting shooting guard. In three years the Timberwolves will have a 27 year old Ryan Gomes, and in case you didn't know he'd be hitting his prime around then and should be scoring more than what he is now. In 3 years the Timberwolves will have picked up 2 rookies that the Celtics could of have, and 3 first round draft picks that could still serve as a purpose because the drafts these days are loaded with talent. I'll just say it in three years the Timberwolves are going to be a much better team. If the Celtics had kept Jeff Green, kept there first round draft picks, traded some of there players for late first round draft picks and kept Al Jefferson, they would've been a star team in three years. Jeff Green could've easily put on muscle, Paul Pierce would serve as a good shooter, Al Jefferson would be one of the top 5 centers in the league, and the Celtics could pick up a decent power forward and a guy that can handle the point. Not to mention with Ricky Davis being just above his prime they'd have a good shooting guard to. All of the fuss this year is about the Celtics big three: Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett. Well this is a pretty good team, but they would have no chance facing a team like the Spurs/Mavericks/Suns. The Spurs could easily handle the Celtics in 5 or 6 games, the Mavericks could do the same if they were playing at there best, and the Suns could easily outscore them because the Celtics don't have that great of a defense and would just try to outscore them. In 3 years the Mavs/Spurs/Suns all would've died down in talent and the Celtics would have a good chance of taking the NBA Title. This year the Celtics are a good bet at getting to the NBA Finals, but they are no match for teams in the Western Conference. All the teams in the Western Conference have built up talent and have glued together for awhile. So who got the better deal? The Timberwolves did, and trust me they will be contenders in the 3 years. As for the Celtics, they'll be better this year but they won't be getting an NBA title and probably won't win any time in the next 5 years because of this move.
