Walking down memory lane at Torrey Pines

LA JOLLA, Calif. – It is September, not June, and the massive galleries weren't in attendance, as they were on that magical day 15 months ago. But while wandering the pristine fairways of Torrey Pines on Saturday for the third round of the LPGA's Samsung World Championship, it was difficult – make that downright impossible – for me, on my first trip back, to avoid reminiscing about the U.S. Open duel between Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate.•The Woods putt in regulation to force the playoff.•The Mediate rally from three down after 11 holes.•The Mediate birdie at 15 that put him on top.•The Woods birdie at 18 that knotted things up again.•And, finally, of course, the Mediate miss for par on the first playoff hole, No. 7, that gave the guy with the broken leg his 14th, and most improbable, major.On Saturday, I kept watching Lorena Ochoa and Paula Creamer and others.
