Windermere Mayor Gary Bruhn and Florida Governor Charlie Crist will hold a press conference Wednesday to award Elin Nordegren with the state's highest honor, the medal for bravery, honor and courage, after her heroic actions to help save Tiger Woods.Woods was involved in a traffic accident Friday morning in which his car collided with a fire hydrant and tree. Jolted into action by love and her instincts, Nordegren broke the back windshield of the car with a golf club, much in the same way a soldier will fall on a grenade to save his platoon.
"It's hard to express how proud the city of Windermere is of Elin Nordegren," Bruhn said. "A lot of people would've broken down in tears or collapsed into hysterics or immediately dialed 9-1-1 so an ambulance could get to the scene to give Mr. Woods medical attention for his injuries. Instead, Elin ignored the car doors and broke the glass farthest from Mr. Woods with a golf club she happened to be carrying. Hopefully some of our ***** firefighters can learn a lesson in bravery from Elin."
The presentation of the award is set to take place at the site of the accident. Nordegren will be given a 10 foot long, golden 9-iron with the time and date of her selfless actions. Woods is expected to be on hand.
There has even been talk of President Barack Obama making an exception for Nordegren and awarding Nordegren a Purple Heart despite the fact her amazing act didn't occur on a battlefield.
"I...believe...that Elin Nordegren...is a hero," Obama said. "If...I...can...receive the Nobel...Prize for...Peace..while...we are at...war...anything is...possible."
The Smithsonian in Washington D.C. is also efforting to acquire the golf club used to save the life of Woods.
Woods was seen exiting his home to pick up a newspaper Monday morning with throngs of adoring fans on hand. A small child waved a golf club at Woods for him to sign, but he collapsed into the fetal position and began whimpering, "Please no. Please no. Please don't beat me."
Psychologists say the trauma of the accident could stay with Woods for a while, but lucky for him, he has the bravest woman in the world by his side.
