It didn’t go as smoothly as they thought it would but nonetheless the World Number one Rory McIlroy and his partner Graeme McDowell took match number one from Furyk and Last weeks Tour Championship and Fedex Cup winner Brant Snedeker. The rules came into play on the second hole when McDowell was looking for relief away from a sprinkler head and Jim Furyk refused to grant it. The rules officials took a look and side with the Americans. The Americans would go on to win the hole. Then it started, McIlroy and McDowell looked like they were going to run away with the match taking the next five of eight holes to go 3-up by the 11th. But then we started to see the pressure of the Ryder Cup, and the danger of a big lead … The Americans took three of four holes, and the teams walked to the 18th all square.
