Rory McIlroy recovered his poise after flattening a teenage spectator with an errant tee shot to lie three shots off the lead following a wild finish to his first round at the British Open.
McIlroy was on 3 under when his drive on the 15th went right, hitting a 16-year-old kid on the back of the head and leaving him dazed on the ground in a pool of blood.
To make matters worse, the ball rebounded further right and ended up out of bounds next to a burger stand. McIlroy returned to the tee and made double-bogey.
The second-ranked Northern Irishman bounced back with birdies at Nos. 16 and 18, however, for a 3-under 67.
McIlroy says ''I thought I did well to keep my composure and keep my concentration.''

Rory McIlroy, this afternoon, is working through the tough weather at the British Open as the winds have kicked up considerably for the afternoon tee times. How bad are the winds? Spraying drives left, right and straight into water-filled bunkers, it was another hard slog for Rory McIlroy at the British Open on Friday.
On a course that demands accuracy off the tee, McIlroy struggled to find a fairway in shooting a 5-under 75 that leaves him on 3-over 142 - 13 strokes off the second-round lead.
He couldn't be further from the McIlroy who wowed the world...

In the world of sports, the British Open golf tournament is probably one of the safest things to watch but that doesn't mean that spectators aren't in harm's way.

Perhaps “nearly decapitated” is a bit too strong as a means to describe what occurred to the young lad who was struck in the head by a golf ball when Rory McIlroy’s errant tee shot went way left on the 15th hole at the British Open on Thursday, but that’s how the bloke in charge [...]
There are few things that I believe that Rory McIlroy can't do with a golf ball and in the below video, he shows off his trick shot abilities.

The first round of the 2012 British Open has generated excitement with Tiger Woods being just a few strokes behind the leader. I’m sure the crowd has enjoyed their time walking the historic Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Course, well, I guess not everyone.

The first round of the British Open is in the books and there are a lot of players in red with Adam Scott leading the field at 6-under. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are in the thick of it and booth sit at 3-under. Besides a bogey...
The 2012 British Open is kicking off this week at the Royal Lytham & St. Annes golf course in Lancashire, UK. The last time the British Open was at Royal Lytham & St. Annes was in 2001 when David Duval took home the Claret Jug. Like all of the British Open courses in the UK, the Royal Lytham & St. Annes will give the top players on the PGA Tour a run for their money....
