Por PAUL NEWBERRY Associated Press Phil Mickelson conquisto el Abierto Britanico con un final spectacular. El estadounidense cerro su actuacion el domingo con una rueda de 66 golpes, cinco bajo par, igualando la mejor marca del torneo. La celebracion comenzo cuando todavia habia cuatro grupos por completar la rueda final. ''Lefty'' hizo birdies en cuatro de los ultimos seis hoyos y corono la rueda embocandola desde tres metros (10 pies) en el exigente hoyo 18 para llevarse su quinto titulo en los torneos grandes. En cuanto la pelota entro en el hoyo, Mickelson levanto sus punos al aire sabiendo que seria dificil que alguien alcanzara su total de 281 golpes, tres bajo par. Salio corriendo para abrazar a su esposa e hijos mientras su caddie no podia contener las lagrimas. Lee Westwood habia empezado la cuarta rueda con dos golpes de ventaja pero sus posibilidades se frustraron cuando no pudo embocar un eagle en el hoyo 17. Adam Scott tuvo la delantera brevemente, pero cuatro bogeys seguidos pusieron fin a sus esperanzas de ganar un segundo titulo grande.
