Mediate, a 47-year-old good guy with a chronically bad back and a permanent smile, didn't just win the PGA Tour's event at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, Calif., he made it compelling. On the way to a 15-under finish and one-stroke margin over Bo Van Pelt and Alex Prugh, Mediate holed out for eagle for the fourth straight day, on Sunday hitting a pitching wedge from 116 yards that spun back into the cup on the par-4 17th.
