Seamus Power out of Zurich Classic of New Orleans after testing positive for COVID-19

Seamus Power won't be playing in this week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

The PGA Tour confirmed on Tuesday that Power has withdrawn from the event after testing positive for COVID-19. "Power will have the PGA Tour's full support throughout his self-isolation period under CDC guidelines," the Tour added. Exact details about Power's condition weren't disclosed.

First alternate Zack Sucher will replace Power as the partner of David Hearn for the official team competition.

According to an ESPN piece, Power is the first golfer to test positive for the coronavirus in nearly a month as vaccine roll-outs continue throughout the United States. Reports surfaced on Monday that the Tour is strongly encouraging players and caddies to receive COVID-19 vaccine shots but is not requiring vaccinations to participate in tournaments and other events. Individuals who choose not to receive the shots must still test negative for the virus "within 72 hours of arrival on site and at their own expense."

The PGA Tour considers somebody fully vaccinated against COVID-19 14 days after receiving second doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, as well as after the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine and the AstraZeneca vaccine.

On-site testing for tournaments will be eliminated at the end of June.
