The 2012 PGA Tour season comes to a close this week at The TOUR Championship by Coca Cola. The top 30 players in the FedExCup points standings will make their way to East Lake Golf Club outside Atlanta, Georgia with each having a chance to win the overall title. The points will be reset prior to the start of the tournament with the top five having control over their fate. A win by any of the top five will also clinch the FedExCup championship and the $10 million prize that comes with the trophy. But last year's tournament was a perfect example of a player coming from back in the pack to win the FedExCup. Bill Haas Jr. entered the finale 25th in the standings. He had opened a three-stroke lead heading into the 16th on Sunday, but two bogeys on the final three holes closed the gap between him and the field and he headed to the range to await his fate. Hunter Mahan managed to tie Haas at eight under and the two headed off to one of the most dramatic playoffs in recent memory. The par-3 18th served as the first playoff hole where Haas pulled his 4-iron into the crowd, but recovered for par to extend the playoff. On the second playoff hole, the par-4 17th, Haas got up-and-down from the water to head back to the 18th for the third playoff hole. This time, Mahan found the bunker off the tee and missed his par putt, while Haas dropped a four-footer for par and the TOUR Championship title. What Haas didn't realize at the time was that his putt also would allow him to win the overall FedExCup Championship adding his name to the previous champions that include Tiger Woods (twice), Vijay Singh and Jim Furyk.
