Coaching Changes Not Helping Maple Leafs Penalty Kill
When Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke announced that the team would not be retaining the services of Assistant coaches Tim Hunter and Keith Acton this summer, it was felt that former New York Islanders Coach Scott Gordon and former Northeastern University bench boss Greg Cronin would bring a new look to the Maple Leafs bench.
For Burke, the direction of his team was...

Dee Karl: Scott Gordon's New Home
I was there at the August press conference when Scott Gordon was announced as the new head coach. I was pleased as punch when Brian Burke and USA Hockey asked him to be on the coaching staff of Team USA. I was angry as hell when news came over that he had been fired.
While under contract for the year, Scott Gordon acted as a consultant to the man who gave him his first coaching job. The...

Coaching Shuffle Brings New Faces
Cynics may suggest that the hiring of Scott Gordon and Greg Cronin – at the expense of Keith Acton and Tim Hunter – as assistants to head coach Ron Wilson may amount to change for change’s sake. And they may not be wrong.
After all, it’s hard to get terribly excited about adding a guy with a 64-94-23 head coaching record at the NHL level (Gordon) and a guy who was suspended...

Islanders Head Coach Scott Gordon Fired
New York Islanders head coach Scott Gordon was fired by the organization this morning, following the tenth straight loss for the club. The firing comes as somewhat of a surprise, as Gordon is well respected among other head coaches and general managers in the league and the players. Then again, if he can’t coach his [...]

All Is Well On This Night
You could say tonight went pretty well for the New York hockey teams. But that doesn't even begin to describe it.The Rangers didn't just win tonight. They got a piece of themselves back. Their win tonight, coupled with Florida's loss, gives the Rangers a two-point lead with two games left. In essence, all the Rangers need to do is win one more game. One more win gives...
