Mitchell Marcus, a special needs student and senior at El Paso (Tex.) Coronado High, had his dreams come true when he not only got to dress out for the final basketball game of the regular season, but also hit the final shot for his team as the time expired thanks to a classy act of kindness from a rival team’s player. Marcus has served as the manager for the boy’s basketball team, but was allowed to dress out on senior night for Coronado High’s final game of the regular season against rival El Paso (Tex.) Franklin High, and it was a game that will be remembered for a long time. Not for the final score or a monster dunk, but for a turnover. When Coronado High took a ten point lead with 1:30 left in the game, Marcus’ number was called and he checked in. The crowed immediately rose to their feet and began cheering him on. Marcus was given multiple chances to shoot, but missed several shots and it looked like his special night was going to end without him scoring. That was until Franklin High’s Jon Montanez got a rebound under Coronado’s basket and passed it right to Marcus, telling him, “shoot it. It’s your time.” Without hesitation, Marcus took his final shot of the night and it went straight in. The clocked expired as Marcus’ final two points helped Coronado earn a 55-40 victory over their rival. The crowd erupted and students rushed the court to congratulate Marcus.  ”Tears immediately came to my eyes, and it was just pure emotion,” Clement Marcus, Marcus’ father, told the Times. “I’ll take it to my grave. It was a community coming together. Forget the high school rivalry.” A truly heartwarming moment and a very classy move by Montanez that Marcus and his family will remember forever. Here is another look at Mitchell Marcus’ special shot. [PepRally] Article found on: Cosby Sweaters

Report: Dodgers acquire Jimmy Rollins from Phillies

The Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t waste much time replacing Hanley Ramirez at shortstop. According to multiple reports, the defending NL West champions have acquired veteran Jimmy Rollins from the Philadelphia Phillies (via CSN Philly). The interesting dynamic here is that Rollins waived his no-trade clause to go to the Dodgers. That has been a point of contention over the past couple...

Never underestimate the focus of a champion

After working for the Minnesota Timberwolves for six years, I got used to watching teams come into Target Center in Minneapolis, toy with the home team for 40 minutes and then finally get to the business of winning as the fourth quarter wound down. Teams turned it on like clockwork. It never occurred to me that such a thing took place in the NFL, but the Seattle Seahawks suddenly...

PETA to Nebraska: Punish player for killing raccoon

Gangwish was bit in the leg by a raccoon. One of the most bizarre stories of the year happened last Friday, when Nebraska DE Jack Gangwish tweeted that he tried taking a selfie with a raccoon, but the raccoon bit him in the leg, so Gangwish killed it with a wrench. Now, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are getting involved. PETA is predictably upset with the way things...

Report: Jimmy Rollins would green light trade to Dodgers

The Philadelphia Phillies would love to move shortstop Jimmy Rollins and the $11 million he’s owed in 2015. However, Rollins has ten and five rights, and would need to give his approval for any trade. He already shot down a trade to the Mets and wouldn’t approve a deal to the A’s. Rollins did say he would accept a move to the Yankees, but Phillies GM Ruben Amaro’s demands...
